Some Senior High School students have blamed the poor performance of WASSCE candidates in core subjects especially Mathematics on poor teaching methods.

The latest WASSCE results revealed that most students performed poorly in the core subjects.

About 32 percent obtained grade A to C6, while 19.82% obtained D7-E8 and 38.10% had F9.

Some SHS students in an interview with Starr News bemoaned that subjects such as Mathematics and Science are packed and difficult to understand and teachers often rush through it.

"They teach as if we know it already, they don’t go into details, they don’t take their time to teach us the way we should understand, they don’t come to our level for us to understand, they teach as if we are in the University and they are lecturing us."

Meanwhile, the Ghana Education Service has expressed satisfaction about the latest results despite fears by stakeholders.

Public Relations Officer for the Ghana Education Service, Rev. Jonathan Bettey said statistics show an improvement in this year's results.

“I will say this year’s results are better than that of last year. It has not been easy with candidates especially the core subjects. In all I will say it’s not that bad.”
