The names of some regions don't make sense. For instance, Central Region is not central to Ghana's physical geography, neither is Eastern Region the eastern most part of the country, when it is outflanked by the Volta Region to the right.

It is about time we give the regions true Ghanaian names. CR, WR, NR, UE, UW, and ER must have new names. How can a region be lying at the coast, in a country that is almost rectangular in shape and be called Central rather than Southern Region, if we have to maintain the bogus English names?

Whiles on the subject, if any region has to be split up to facilitate development, then it has to be the Northern Region and not W/R. The N/R is huge and must be posing administrative and governance challenge and headache. Just my two pesewas.

2) Brigadeer Michel (an Ewe) was commissioned as military officer after the Second World war.(Remember Michel Camp in Tema?) He rose through the ranks. Are you saying Brigadier Michel was serving another country but was promoted by the British?

Volta Region (Anlo area), for that matter KETA was the 4th BIGGEST city in Gold Coast in the 1920s. The Keta Habour was very popular spot for commerce. The Sea / Erosion destroyed this cute town.

I thought he was locating the new region in the north - divide the northern region into two. So far, it is the only that stretches from the eastern boundaries of the country to the western boundary. Equitable distribution of resources for the western part of the northern region would have been realised, then we can give him kudos.
What sense does it make to divide the western region at this stage? Yet he did not see that to be important as compared to dividing the northern region rather. It is probably a chase for western votes. After all the NPP has said it before that when you combine all the votes in the three northern regions, they would not sum up to the votes from Bantama alone.

What the President can do is to create more districts especially for the marginalised groups. The President has the direct power to create districts. Ghana is one of the few countries in the world where there are more constituencies (275) than districts (216). That is the flaw of the 1992 Constitution and the poorly-designed Kwamena Ahwoi's District Assembly concept.

What needs to be done is to keep the number of constituencies at the same level of 275 and then create more districts without the requirement of a district assembly needing to have an MP. With the number of constituencies the same, population changes can be reflected by changing boundaries of existing constituencies. New districts are needed to reflect the reality of increasing population growth rates and fast rural-urban migration

This is absolutely not necessary. What economic benefit will this additional region bring. This idea will rather cost Ghana more. Additional administration/administrators will be needed. This is cost.
