The girl is already pregnant. Does the whipping stop the pregnancy? What about the harm - both physical and psychological - that may have been done to the unborn baby. How would you like to grow up and watch a video showing how your mother was whipped when she was pregnant with you? Only God can judge those poor kids.

A crime has obviously been committed here. Kofi Bentil should not try to defend this guy. Let the law take its natural course.

Few questions Mr. Kofi Bentil needs to answer: Were the victims made aware that when you attend that church and you are caught in fornication or the like, you will be whipped before the whole congregation? Could it be that the victims came to chuch as usual and ,out of the blue, that Obinim called them out to the front or they were informed at home earlier on and they willingly came? The legal principle Kofi Bentil is referring to applies to adults of sound mind and not children. The two are children and so protected under the Childrens Act 1998 (Act 650). Moreover, the state has obligation under the UN Convention on the Rights of the Child to protect children from abuse. Finally, the flogging of the two was degrading and inhuman treatment and a violation of the constitutional rights under the 1992 Constitution. The flogging of the two young people was criminal and barbaric and Obinim and his accomplices can be tried and punished if convicted. Kofi Bentil should stop talking rubbish because Obinim is a common criminal. What he did had nothing to do with religion or Christianity but child abuse.

I am really disappointed in Mr Bentil for failing to educate the public that as children, the two people disciplined here cannot agree to anything and therefore Mr Bentil submission that they agreed to be punished is not tenable since they are children.

There is no evidence in this case to suggest that the victims submitted themselves willingly because they were being restrained by Obinim's men from running.
Please read the principle again and look at the cases in which it applies and the limitations imposed by the courts.

Lastly, the most stupid thing he says is that Obinim would only be wrong if he claims that the victims are his kids. The law doesnt just criminalize the beating of your own kids. It criminalizes the beating of kids, period.

And in any case, Obinim has asserted that he is the guardian of the kids. So even if we follow Kofi's stupid logic, that puts him afoul of the law in the way that he understands it.

If an armed robber rapes a woman the quietness of the woman allowing the act to take place doesn't unmake the act punishable because the woman allowed the act under fear and coercion. Subsequently, that action by Obinim is criminal and it is the state's responsibility to apprehend and punish criminal acts, hence his action. The offence is against the state and not only against the individuals involved. While they can exercise their civil rights by suing Obinim for civil liability, the state has original responsibility to act swiftly by applying the law through its enforcement machinery, the police.
I don't understand why you think the act can't be punished or the guy Obinim can't be arrested. Your explanation doesn't add up in law and in particular the relevant provisions in the Ghanaian Constitution. Check it up properly and come up again with your advise or commentary .

If they want to tackle human rights there so many better areas to operate and not to busy themselves uselessly over unnecessary issues. After all have the victims who were flogged logged a complaint to them or any body ?.Please tell the hypocrites to concern themselves with themselves and stop venting their jealousy on Bishop Obinim. That's abuse irrespective of how u want to see it ... no one from the pastor his deputies or whatever they are called right down to his congregation can say they are 100 % clean ... haven't done nothing untoward in their li ...
