The Dr. touches on something we all need to seriously think about but in a rough way. I have also always wondered how best a Council of that nature ought to act. In order to judge right, we ought to know what its intended role is, by our Constitution.

If the existence of the Council of State is so it could advise the President, what then should we see the Cabinet Ministers do? If we need a layered group of Legislators, too, why not create a bicameral Parliament, as in the UK with Lower and Upper Chambers of Parliament, or in other countries, as with the Senate and House of Representatives?

As our Council of State is now, it seems to be a repository of personalities who the President deems deserving of national recognition of some sorts but do not fit into the dimensions of electoral Office. The members are then appointed by the President to appease them, or let them feel he and the Nation acknowledge their prominence.

As for the nominal expectation that the Council would advise the President as if to say that only those with advanced age have the wisdom to guide any Government to govern efficiently, how does the President determine such wisdom would guide us to best handle contemporary issues? It is only when one is assigned a specific role in a specific field of human endeavor that we could be assured of that person's practical contribution to our growth and stability.

May I therefore ask if these members of the Council are selected based upon their personal expertise in their various life endeavors that the President could gain some lessons from? Or, they are just there to arbitrate between disputing national groups in our Political system to ensure Peace at all times?

The role of the Council and the criteria for their selection must be vigorously reconsidered, if we are to gain anything widely beneficial from their membership on the Council.

May I also ask if Dr. Baah's description of our Parliament doesn't amount to contempt of the Legislature? Would he then be called by the Parliament to answer any questions for his remarks that denigrates the MPs?

I lost respect for him, when I watched that youngster and promising Politician, Kwakye Ofosu, make 'mince meat' of him on Joy FM's Newsfile weekly political program. To the best of my knowledge,he has not been invited back to the show since that dreadful performance he put up on that day!
