Prof. Dodoo is not even mentioned in the article but is part of the title. Also Rio is mentioned without including the country Brazil in the article. This is poorly written.

Whatever the case, the Federations job is to make sure they kept her on track. That is their job and they did not do right by her or the country.Of course she would have advisors when she did the most incredible thing of winning a gold at the youth olympics. at that point she has some juice and she should have been listened to and the federation had to find a way of working with her people.Instead they tried to isolate her and just give her orders and tell her what to do when she is a young girl and not very experienced at many things. The clever thing to have done was to listen to her. SHE IS THE ATHLETE! The federations think they are the important ones, the officials when it should be the other way round. Put the athletes first.

Yes I agree. If you look at her race on youtube from Youth Olympics you can see that she won by a far margin. She was the right age and had the right times so this would have been a very good experience for her and she should have qualified in the heats so even if she did not win a medal this time, she is still young enough to use this Olympics as experience for the next one. But yes I agree I think the damage done to her may not be something she will be able to bounce back from. A shame. She had raw talent, good mindset and with a bit of technical training to polish her technique she would definitely have been world class. But I can imagine that she is completely dejected now and may never recover from the situation she was put in.

I don't think you understand the issue of selection procedures. Martha was absolutely the right person for selection. She had performed at the Youth Olympics which is there to identify potential for the main olympics. She won a gold medal at a really good time and won by a huge lead. She was the first gold medallist for Ghana. For rio I think she would have been 18 or 19. So this was the perfect one for her to go to to try out against the top athletes knowing that anything she did in Rio would give her the perfect springboard for building a programme for her specifically leading to Tokyo 2020. Martha Bissah, for anyone who knows anything about sports on the international level would tell you, was the best hope for Ghana for Tokyo 2020 and before that the African Games in 2019 and the world championships 2017 and 2018. But because of the way they treated her they have actually killed off her potential and completely destroyed her REAL chances of being a Ghanaian hero and a role model for girls. Really sad. To fix this now is a major problem and it won't be solved by sending her away. Once again bad management by the Federations. Too bad1

The problem in Ghana sport is not about replacement. It is about government priority in making available necessary equipment and long term training for our athletes.

In past Olympic games, our sportsmen were resplendent in their Kente. And they brought home medals. Boxing and athletics were our forte.
Let us organise our sports well, encourage talent and fund sport properly. Why was Martha Bissah not at these Games? Would she not have benefited from exposure to top competition?

If you have a runner that wins a gold at Youth Olympics, by a wide margin, and you don't send her to the senior olympics you are not a good manager of talent. they have destroyed a real talent for Ghana and that is really inexcusable.

No one listens, the same thing goes on over and over again, and it's the Ghanaian youth who lose their hope and waste talent and opportunities. Without a proper overhual as you say, the same thing will continue. No one listens. They talk a good game though!
