In the 1970s, the Northern Region alone produced enough rice to feed the whole of Ghana and beyond. It is simple common sense to divert part of that amount of money into local irrigation (and in my part of England, every village has a dam for water supply).

In Ghana, that can be used for water supply as well as irrigation. That is not rocket science. I am sure my nieces in JSS in Ghana understand that!

You do not understand what is happening in Ghana. I run a local business there and I know how my employees have sworn to ditch Mahama. You can hide in your ghetto in south Paris with the beheaders and dream!

Do we think honestly that the swing voters who decide presidential elections in Ghana would go for Akufo-Addo given the nature of the economy and problems facing Ghana as the country no longer depends on free donor monies and grants close to one billion United States dollars each year that Kufour and Atta-Mills enjoy over the 11-year period from 2001 to 2011 in the light of a population that has now gone over 28 million people in 2016 compared to about 18.5 million people when Kufour took power in January 2001?.

AKUFO-ADDO IS SIMPLY TOO OLD TO BE PRESIDENT OF A COUNTRY LIKE GHANA WHERE THE PEOPLE ARE VERY DIFFICULT TO GOVERN. LOOK AT THE ENVIRONMENTAL SANITATION PROBLEM IN THE COUNTRY.

Already some area in the upper west have been affected by irrigation dam that was build which has flown into nearby house and destroyed homes and properties. A young man has been dating a young woman he really likes for a few months, and she invites him to meet her parents. They go to her parents' home for dinner, and he is introduced to the family pet Rover, an old Labrador.

Everything is going well and he's enjoying the meal, when all of a sudden, the guy is overcome with a need to fart. Oh gosh, what is he going to do? He's trying to impress her parents!

He suppresses it for a while, but the pressure is growing. Eventually, he decides he has to relieve it a bit, and ever so carefully, he releases just a little bit of gas.

About 15 seconds later, his girlfriend's father pauses mid-sentence to bark "Rover!" at the dog, and continues speaking. Rover is lying in the corner of the room, between the boyfriend and the father, and fortunately, it seems that the father thinks that it's Rover who's farting.

A few minutes later, the boyfriend risks releasing a little bit more.

Another 15 seconds or so after that, as the odour spreads, the father again hollers: "Rover!"

Conversation continues, and the boyfriend is mightily relieved that he seems to have gotten away with releasing some of the pressure in his bowels, without embarrassing himself in front of his girlfriend's parents.

Eventually he risks releasing all of the remaining pressure, as quietly as he can.

A few seconds later, the father roars: "For God's sake, Rover, move out of the way before this boy shits all over you!"

Let us be sensible and rational. Does this man, Akufo-Addo have the energy and good health to execute ALL these fancy projects? Acheampong was in his mid 40s when he started Operation Feed Yourself with all the excitement and energy.

Do we think honestly that the swing voters who decide presidential elections in Ghana would go for Akufo-Addo given the nature of the economy and problems facing Ghana as the country no longer depends on free donor monies and grants close to one billion United States dollars each year that Kufour and Atta-Mills enjoy over the 11-year period from 2001 to 2011 in the light of a population that has now gone over 28 million people in 2016 compared to about 18.5 million people when Kufour took power in January 2001?.

AKUFO-ADDO IS SIMPLY TOO OLD TO BE PRESIDENT OF A COUNTRY LIKE GHANA WHERE THE PEOPLE ARE VERY DIFFICULT TO GOVERN. LOOK AT THE ENVIRONMENTAL SANITATION PROBLEM IN THE COUNTRY.

In the Northern region alone you can count nearly 500 and over villages, then you do same in the Upper East and Upper West, Just one dam in an area in the Upper West and please, read on the disaster it caused in the region. If you are putting hundreds of thousands of irrigation dams across the region you need to think of the implications and environmental disasters and also the costs. I do not think reasonable Northerners will welcome this disastrous proposal. It is impossible and that is the fact. Even 5 proper irrigation dams is not an easy target, lets be reasonable to ourselves.

If you have leaders with no vision don't think every Ghanaian is also dumb. During Gen. Acheampong time every Friday on GBC tv documentary was all about the irrigation projects and combine harvesters in the north. You could see farming during that time being very interesting and they had the donkeys too doing farm work, so if you the youth didn't see that don't think, it never happened in Ghana
. I tell you, during Acheampong time we had excess food for export like maize, rice and yam even millet and he built silos, ( I don't know if I got it right) for storage. Rawlings came to destroy the country so if somebody has that mind to move the country forward lets support him to give us a better Ghana. Nana Addo has grown through so many governments and know what he is talking about. Why did Mrs Matilda Amissah Arthur advised us to go back for the operation feed yourself? Because it was successful and it was initiated by Gen. Kutu Acheampong ' s regime. Let me tell you, anyone who says ndc is Nkrumaist party that's a lie, if it was they will never neglect agriculture to destroy. Acheampong was a student of Kwame Nkrumah ideological institute and whatever he did was good for the country, there was no loans, no grants because he told our international partners 'Yentua' so they refused Ghana everything but he managed the country with the resources we had, the Zualuga meat factory was working, Bolga corned beef factory was working, Kade match factory was working, Kumasi shoe factory was working, Komenda sugar factory was working, Bonsa tyres, Aboso glass factory all in the western region and more were working, Garment factories and a whole lot more, most of the factories Osagyefo left were working and they were advertising for workers, even students on vacation could get work to do on long vac. Employment was no problem, I was a student in the high school and got vacation jobs sometimes at the hospital records. Do not let ndc fool you, they have destroyed our country. We still have people who love this country and would like to rescue her lost glory, give them the chance. We need to go back for the lost ones and add more to make our country attractive like before. NDC is enemy of Ghana, they have nothing good for the country kick them out. If I was able to save during my school age under a certain regime and even to the extent some students after high school started Accra- Rome, Accra- Beirut business why can't our kids survive this time? Why should our kids be unemployed at this time? Don't tell me population growth because Acheampong ' s population growth was higher than Osagyefo that time, it's all about vision and good planning. America was built on every state with it's natural resources, America paid for people to research on every state potential so they could build on it, so if Nana has got volunteer researchers who have gone all over Ghana to see what each region and district is good at so we put that into use what is wrong with that? The 3 northern regions have dry land but they are good in farming so if the researchers have come out with irrigation dams in every village what is wrong with it? the Sada, Suba money gone into the pockets of John Mahama and his friends can do more than expected, the monies ndc officials have dumped in other countries were in Ghana all these could be achieved. Let the man come and we see how our country can be transformed, we can never go where with ndc at the helms of affairs. NDC is best at destroying others characters, denigrating, vilification and such evil vises but when it comes to building a nation they have no idea. Whoever say that is not possible is jsust lazy and a lair. Indeed he awoke Ghanaians from their deep laziness and the result was grandios: I personally took part.

But considering the number of villages in Ghana (or Northern Ghana as Akuffo-Addo promised), it is simply unrealistic to promise 1 village 1 dam, unless he talking about some ntaaboo dam that would be washed away before it is finished.

Already he has promised, among others: 1 factory per district ( hope he does not mean 1 kabo-kabo cornmill machine per district)

Irrigation in the north is necessary for agriculture.However, the silly thing about Nana's proposal has completely failed to appreciate that the dry season is the time this irrigation will be of most benefit. Unfortunately, in the dry season in th enorth there is so much evaporation of water from water bodies even before the arrival of the harmattan. Most dams are dry with no rainfall. there is very little sense in digging irrigation dams in every village. The main rives in much of the north themselves are dry so where is the water that is required in the dry season going to com from for this "irrigation" that Nana is promising?

It such an ill-considered proposal that I wonder if Nana understands how the rainfall pattern in the north, the dry hot seasons just before the arrival of the harmattan, when dry dams are abound.

This will certainly not get you any votes from the people who know the problems and who would have rather you told them how you could ensure full dams during the Harmattan and dry seasons.

I can deliver this vision in 3'years as a consultant who will advice nana addo's government at minimal cost.
All I need is 5 teams of experts and each team will include a civil engineer, aqua engineer, agricultural economist, rural development planners and project manager. Government has a lot of them in ministries being paid for no work done. In total in need 25 persons to form 5 team of management, super vision and project delivery teams of the entire 1500 irrigation dams with manager 20 construction teams.

(2) for the construction team, I will need 2500 soldiers already on government payroll, 2500 engineering graduates as national service personal and a further 2500 unskilled worker. Each construction team will be made up 25 soldiers, 25 service personnels, 25 unskilled workers of 75 workers out of which will be made up of various professionals relevant to the construction of the dams. Already soldiers are on government single/triple spine payroll. University fresh graduate will consider it great privilege to work with the Ghana army the finest in the world to deliver this vision at say 350 ghs per month to give the experience the job market requires for 12 months. As for unskilled workers they are in great abundance in any part of the country. Equipment, I belief the nation Ghana has over 100 excavators sitting idle and rusting. (So we don't have to buy new machines) Now is it the cost of cement, iron rods and water that is the problem. Now by my calculations there will be 100 construction teams of 75 workers each. Charge each each with the responsibility of building 5 each every year. So for each year there will be 500 irrigation dams in the northern part of Ghana . Give or take after 3 years the project is completed. The last year 4th, nana addo government refuse to do accounting to the peoples tour and rather use the money involve to award people and individuals who distinguished themselves to move Ghana forward. Would that not be a national pride giving the fact our brothers and sisters can now engage in an all year round farming getting enough to feed the 1 factory 1 district agenda.

It is possible. All it takes is commitment, setting priorities and stopping corruption and needless waste.

There more than enough architects, civil engineers, agro economists, rural development planners, project managers, other on government payroll who barely do anything. For the construction itself there are soldiers, service personnels from the various engineering faculties in public and private universities and as for unskilled manpower they are in excess supply. So we have equipment, experts and managerial, supervisory and delivery team. The construction team the soldiers are on payroll, service persons paid at 350 ghc per month, unskilled labour at 500 ghc per month. So what is the issue now, cost of cement, water, iron rods, etc etc . If we put 100 construction team of 75 person each to delivery 5 Dams per year. In 3 years, 1500 dams can be constructed at minimal cost. Bare in mind npp is looking at ways to increase the revenue of Ghana to fund these projects instead of jumping from china to brazil to usa looking for loans at high interest on project that are not economically viable.

Increased income and will able to contribute to tax payment. If 400 farmers benefits from each of the 1500. U looking at 600,000 farmers up north and each pay 100 as tax per year. Is that not 60,000,000 ghs. Cannot government employ say extra 500 doctors and say 5000 nurses for the 3 regions to improve health of standards alone. The issue here is not ability but I think it is viability. I think Nana needs to be very calculative in his promises so that the electorate will not think that they are being taken for granted.
