This story shows how unsafe our work places are,one can sleep right on top of running machines without thinking of safety.
I hope his death will serve as deterrent to other stupid ones who don't think safety is priority.

Any company worth its salt does not allow pictures to be taken inside the premises without authorization. Ghanaians, fools as we are, take everything for granted. No wonder nothing works in this country.

It is very very pathetic scenario. Fatal mistakes causes death so the living must learn from it!
Sleeping on duty is like sitting on a timed bomb. Be cautious and be precautious of every moving machines in an industrial zone.

Kindly permit me to comment on the industrial accident that occurred on the 27th of August at Western Diamond company.
The Regional Factory Inspector and my good self called on Management of western diamond and were received by the CORPORATE GROUP HEAD(HRM & ADMIN) and the GENERAL MANAGER. Having been brief by management we called for a discussion with the principal witness who happened to be the only witness.
narrating the circumstance of the accident the deceased workers' co mate at the work place explained that together with the deceased were direct employees of an outsourced service provider (third Party) of Western Diamond Company. He informed visiting officials that they took a decision to rest and thus moved to the said work area which happened to be in a tunnel. The said area was installed with a convey belt machine and was an unauthorized work area. Because the area was a no go area any work assigned was directly supervised by the safety officer applicable third party contractor. The deceased workman and his surviving co-worker entered the tunnel to sleep on one of the two conveyor belts that were not switched on, since a third conveyor belt was operational. When the operational conveyor was switched onto one of the remaining two the surviving co worker who was not deeply asleep quickly jumped but his effort to save his co-worker who was deeply asleep failed.
He raised an alarm and a search revealed his death.
The Regional Inspector of Factories and my good self gathered from our interrogation that for the two said employees it was a good hiding place to lazy about or sleep on duty. Obviously the two said workers disregarded all safety operating procedures and safe work practices.
An examination of the machine revealed that the convey belt had discharge chutes and the clamp gates that were meant to clamp on lumps was the machine is operational clamped on the body of the deceased workman.

Since the accident base was an unauthorized area whilst work was on going, the accident was a result of a workers blatant disregard for occupational safety. My sincere advise to media personnel and media stations is that serious efforts should be made to present true facts to our reading public. False publications such as "deceased slipped and fell directly on an operating machine"; are obviously a play on words. Before publicizing, efforts should be made to reach all stakeholders so as to present genuine circumstances.
Let our readers be informed that the deceased workman is a Ghanaian and a native of Twifo Heman and not from Togo as purported.

Meanwhile work at Western Diamond is ongoing since Monday 29th August and the industrial environment is calm.
