We seem to blame the ruling govt for all our woes yet we fail to recognise the need that private organizations such as the British council as part of their corporate social responsibility are always ready to assist any individual who has innovative ideas geared to transforming our educational sector. You can equally patent your innovation and go ahead and feature it on social media. That said, under MASLOC and YEA which were instituted by the govt are all helping launch their careers. The NDC govt is creating the opportunities! You just need to take advantage of them

Your incompetence on all fronts has led to a declining standard of education not only in the Central region but all across the country and instead of offering solutions, you are lamenting that your investments in the sector has not yielded the required results?
Does anybody need to tell Mahama what he needs to do when his policies, programs and investments instead of improving standards rather accelerates the retrogression of standards? There seems to be a certain inability of Mahama to be embarrassed by his failure in gov't and it is amazing. Where does the NDC party get such people from?

The National Association of Graduate Teachers, (NAGRAT), has accused the government of not devoting ample time and resources to education in the country.

According to the President of NAGRAT, Christian Addae-Poku, Government’s policy of building schools across the country is more for the approval of voters than it is for the benefit of the sector.

“We don’t think it’s prioritized. It’s a lip-service that government pays to education trying to tell everybody that education is a priority. As far as we practitioners are concerned, education is never a priority. If education was a priority, teachers would not be recruited and made to serve for two or three years without a salary.

If education was a priority, why are district offices suffering with their subventions in arrears for four years.? If education is a priority, why is government concentrating only on building schools and not on other aspects of the system that will education run on,” he said “As far as we are concerned, we are playing to the gallery, pleasing the populace by implementing populist policies meant to get votes.”

Pay all arrears in two month or else…

NAGRAT had earlier given government a two-month ultimatum to settle all arrears owed public Senior High Schools and teachers otherwise they will “advise themselves.” According to NAGRAT, the failure of the government to invest in education had resulted in the declining standards in the sector.

“When government subventions to various directorates are not paid it pacts negatively on all spheres of educational activity. Just as regional and district directorates of education have been starved of funding, we have reasons to conclude that even the Ghana Education Service Headquarters has not been spared.

The situation is that bad at all levels but our directors are tight-lipped in voicing their ordeals for fear that they might be victimized,” the President of NAGRAT, Christian Addae-Poku said.

“NAGRAT expects that the issues raised regarding the payment of outstanding subventions to our education offices, payment of all salaries and allowances in arrears owed teachers, the conduct of promotion interviews and promotion of teachers to be fully addressed by the end of October, 2016. The failure of which teachers will advise themselves.”

He called on President John Dramani Mahama to intervene as lack of investment in the Ghana’s educational sector could be detrimental to the country’s developmental agenda “The plain language is that our education is failing, Our district offices are virtually non-functional and neither the government nor the ordinary citizen can be proud of this.

Mr. President we humbly implore you to step in and save this situation,” Mr. Addae-Poku appealed.

NAGRAT blasts gov’t over unsustainable education programmes

The Association also wants government to look beyond introducing social intervention programmes in the education sector, merely to score what it calls cheap political points.

President of the Association, Christian Addae-Poku, argues that government after introducing such programmes, has not been able to provide adequate funding to run and sustain them.

GNAT, NAGRAT, CHASS fight GES

Following weeks of agitations by the Conference of Heads and Assisted Secondary Schools (CHASS), the Ghana National Association of Teachers (GNAT) and the National Association of Graduate Teachers (NAGRAT), the Ghana Education Service (GES) announced that it had released some money to cover subsidies which were owed the secondary schools.

CHASS had issued a threat to close down Senior High Schools (SHS) nationwide, following delays by the government in paying the subsidies.

GNAT hinted that, they might declare a nationwide strike in September 2016, if the subsidy arrears of the various second-cycle institutions were not paid. NAGRAT also insisted that the unions had a say in the matter as the work of the teachers were affected by the situation.

“NAGRAT is not happy with the way things are because we can’t just imagine how you fail to fund education and you still expect education to function well. We are reducing ourselves to mediocrity where people think that whether we have the resources or not, education must go on,” Christian Addae Poku told Citi News at the time.

You have even provided students with sandals. The school feeding program has expanded. Schools have been so well-catered for that even the wife of Amissah Arthur feels the schools are being pampered. If in spite of all those highly effective measures the standards are falling then you need to find out who has been encouraging you to lie!

We are in a system where you say the truth concerning things going from the basic level, you're either transferred or marked.
It is time President Mahama resources the basic level adequately and should allow the system to work.

President Mahama hasn't failed Ghanaians and currently he is delivering on his promises. Under his watch, he had ensured that brilliant but needy students in the capecoast metropolis have received scholarships all in the bid to ensure that their education is not truncated.
He only highlighted the need to support the weak students in our schools and parents equally have a role to play since the ruling govt cannot be blamed if some students fail to take their lessons seriously. We can all attest to how some SHS students flood the malls and spend countless hours attending fun fairs from school to school all year round at the expense of their books? Nobody can take the fun out of the school but if the students fail to learn, how is that the fault of the government?

Today, almost every teacher is involved in trade or other businesses because of low income. Make enquiries on how teachers are taking loans from financial institutions which are charging astronomical interest rates. To me, every teacher is supposed to devote his/her entire time for the children researching and improving lessons delivery but what is happening? They have to trade to survive. No wonder standards are falling.

The NDC on the other hand is putting our scarce resources to good use and in effect as at the third quarter of the year 2015 $201,072,785.62 representing 41% of the total of $792,623,122.73 worth of investment was awarded to indigenous companies thanks to the NDC government.

The truth always remain the truth. Ghana's education begin to decline long ago. By introduction of JSS a lot of changes has taken place. In the old system, after primary education it takes one 11yrs to enter university whilst in the new system it just 6yrs. Point two As the population begin to grow so the demand for more schools which the missionaries and the government can no longer cope with. And that call for more private schools. In business private man always thinking about maximasing profit will do anything to keep his school to attract more pupils. Most private school need to be more monitored. Let us all stop the politics and do the right thing. Ghana's education is not about NDC or NPP. Stop buying/ selling of the final exam question before it is time to take them. Parents just simple ask your children to grab their books instead of leaving them alone to do what they want.
