Until then, he must stop using the term "non-partisan" because the peace council he chairs has proved to be partisan. How can he convince anybody to believe that the government does not have any influence in the appointment of the chairman of the peace council? Only kids would believe that ananse story!! Even if the government never directly appointed him, he has been drafted into the NDC somehow: his pronouncements are the clue! We are happy he is no more the head of our church, because he was a disgrace to the position!

The NPC statement as delivered by Rev. Asante was respectful and simply clarified Rev. Martey's implied claims that he declined the appointment to the Council because they were prone to the influence of the government. Did you by any chance, analyse the original statement that kick started this media storm or you choose to be selective in your support of the truth?
Why would a whole Moderator, lay claim to an aggregious bribery and fail to report or name the culprits? Rev. Prof Martey is calculating and had to shift the media storm elsewhere. Discerning minds know that the only reason he declined the appointment was because he knew he didn't have the right temperament nor could he secure the votes to make him Chairman of the NPC in a free vote against Rev. Prof Asante.It's his bloated ego that directed him to decline a nomination from the Christian Council, a body he himself Chaired.Note that he'd been made aware several months earlier of that nomination.The fact that he's a Senior Minister does not absolve him from the need to show courtesy to others. Your statement is revealing as it shows a lack of understanding and maturity ;Where was the courtesy and respect shown to Rev. Asante and the NPC when Rev. Martey made his statement?

That cannot be true due to the Constitution and yet turn to say the president has power to appoint the chair but he did not that previously. Does have or haven't done that before prevent the government to lobby someone to join the council. Some of these clergy who have failed us by criticising governments to let them focus on their duty should give us break. For it is the duty of the clergy to admonish and criticize governments to let them focus on the work given to them. If they have failed to do that, for reasons better known to them, they should not stand in the ways of those who want to it.

The NPC had no choice but to react to the calculating statement made by Rev. Prof Martey.
The Moderator's statement implied that the Peace Council was partisan and cited that as a reason to decline his appointment as a representative of the Christian Council. I beg to differ. I have a different hypothesis.The question that levelheaded individuals should be asking is why he chose not to accept the appointment when he had been notified of his nomination several months prior. Let me preface the argument that there is history between both Rev. Professors. Both served at the Trinity Theological Seminary where Prof Asante was the head of the institution. Both served as the head of the Christian Council, where Rev Martey succeeded Rev.Asante. Of course both served at the top echelon of their respective churches.
I believe Prof Martey got a call and was given some sort of a promise albeit a promise that that was always going to be difficult to deliver. The official term of office for representatives to the Peace Council is 4 years. Rev. Prof. Martey made a calculation that Prof.Asante would not be returned as a representative having served his full term and as the Interim Chairman. In his mind, he thought it would be easier to be voted in as the Chairman in the absence of Rev. Asante. When he realized that the situation had changed, Rev. Martey made a decision to decline his appointment as he couldn't see himself defeating Rev.Asante in a fair vote. Rev. Asante as the face of the NPC is experienced and has the temperament required to perform as the Chairman of the Peace Council. Rev. Martey is well aware of this. There would not be many that think Rev.Martey would calmly cajole feuding parties after a hard fought election to sit down and iron differences in the way Rev. Asante has. His is a thankless role that would attract vitriol regardless, but he's been steadfast and stuck to the job at hand.
