You can now understand why Amissah Arthur is messing up.
I have always said that when you give NDC 20 years to rule Ghana they cannot effect any meaningful change because the there is not there. They simply don't have the qualified people to rule Ghana.

AGBESI KWESI, Amissah-Arthur was a research assistant at the Institute of Statistical, Social and Economic Research between 1974 and 1975. He later joined the Economics Department as a teaching assistant from 1977 to 1978, going on to become an assistant lecturer in 1979. He lectured at the Department of Economics at the University of Ghana between 1980 and 1988. He has also been a lecturer at the Department of Economics, Anambra State College of Education, Awka, Anambra State, Nigeria (August, 1981 – July, 1983)He worked as a consultant for the World Bank in the Gambia. He also served as a consultant for the Netherlands' government education project in Ghana. He then worked as Senior Economist for the Sigma One Corporation in Ghana between 1998 and 2000. Between 2001 and 2002, he was on assignment for the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Denmark.From 1983 to 1986, Amissah-Arthur served as a special assistant to the Secretary of Finance and Economic Planning, Kwesi Botchwey, in the Provisional National Defense Council government. Subsequently, he was Deputy Secretary for Finance in the PNDC government from February 1986 to March 1993. From April 1993, he continued as the Deputy Minister for Finance in the Rawlings government after the establishment of constitutional rule until March 1997.

Amissah-Arthur was appointed as Governor of the Bank of Ghana in October 2009 by President John Atta Mills. He held this position until 6 August 2012, when he became Vice President of Ghana following the death of Atta Mills. Both families originated from Cape Coast. He completed his secondary education at the Mfantsipim School where he obtained the GCE Ordinary Level in 1969 and the GCE Advanced Level in 1971. He proceeded to the University of Ghana at Legon where he obtained the B.Sc. in 1974 and M.Sc.in 1976, both in Economics.

Lenders typically have fixed rates for only the first 12 months but this even change in the first 12 months if it has a variable component or the terms or conditions are violated. Also, don't forget about the compounding effect of IR as the VP seem to dismiss. Akoto Osei is talking about payment terms. Think about $500K loan repayment over 60 months vs. 10 years repayment and consider the annual interest expenses & payout of principal vs. actual capital invested yearly.

How can Amissah Arthur say that an interest on a loan for ten years can never be bigger than the principal? Has this Mumu Vice President aware of a mortgage loan? You can get a mortgage loan of $250,000 for thirty years at 7% interest per year and by the time you finish paying for that loan, you would have paid close to $600,000.

Ndc government which he heads the Economic team are contracting for $100 million loans at 25% for ten years. By the time you finish paying for that kind of loan, you would have paid over $150 million in interest alone. Is that not more than the original $100 million loan?

No wonder he cannot get into any Doctoral degree program around the world and he was teaching at an Agege, Nigeria Teacher Training college when Dr Bawumiah was lecturing at prestigious Baylor University, Waco, Texas and winning prizes for his Economic know how.

Thus, annual interest payment on the loans have become over-burdening the Nation. In a way, Ghana is spending too much on interest payment than infrastructural development, and, that is Bawumia's argument.

Too much loans could enslave the Nation, we spend all our cocoa, oil and gold revenues on interest payment to the lenders, while the principal keep pending and yielding more interest income for the modern day Slave Masters.

am a financial economist and I can 100% say that the value if a loan should not be judged only in terns of how much you paybback but the return which could be in monetary or social terms. i think Bawumia do not understand that when you invest money like governments do three are social outcomes which you can't put value on. for in stand if a government borrows to invest in health services, you get better workforce, less stressful population, etc. as far as the money was applied properly. more more for the loan should therefore not be seen as a loss. there are social benefits to borrowing money!

Government loans are good for Bankers because they are fairly safe. At worst
The IMF will come to the rescue . In development economics Government borrowings must have a strategic underpinnings . Borrowing for consumption mainly as this government has done is dumb .And that was one of the points Bawumia is saying with data. Our borrowings must be used to support policies that drive economic growth . Investments in human capital ( health and schools) are good and sustainable only if the economy is growing . Look at NHIS a good social policy is dead because the economy shank and could not support it due to cosumption spending in 2012 to win an election. Borrowing is not bad in itself if strategically targeted and you can generat enough revenues to pay the interest and principal during the term of the loan. Projects with user fees can pay for themselves and gave strategic leverage on the economy. The Akosombo Dam industrialized South Eastern Ghana for example . Nkrumah was strategic in building it with a loan. Successive governments have invested in the cocoa sector for decades. It supports rural incomes policy and has a potent multiplier effect on the economy Yet the luxury life copy masters we have leading the country have ignored agriculture and its down stream opportunities to create employments. They have operated on automatic pilot with agriculture . All they care about are SUVs and big mansions acquisitions by looting the country's Treasury as their goal.

Government is showcaing developments as achievements and opposition is pointing to the financial distress government has gotten us into. Amissah's explanation to the problem is dumb. Do we need to pay such massive interest on the loans? What are the benefits to be derived from the debt? Soon 60% of revenue will be servicing debt and how are we going to survive? The country is already in financial distress the reason we run to IMF. NDC and Amissah are all dumb ass fools when it comes to finance. Who will pay interest on $40B with $7B investments? No amount of lies will suffice, we are buried under debt.

My friend has told me several times that Amissah-Arthur does not know or understand economics at all. My friend was Amissah-Arthur's teacher at the University of Ghana Legon in the mid-1980 (graduated in 1989 and now lives in Canada), and he tells me that anytime Amissah-Arthur came to class he totally fumbled with basic economic concepts, facts and figures. My friend who now has a Ph. D. has never respected Amissah-Arthur when it comes to knowledge in basic economics and teaching economics. he told me that most, if not all the students could see that he did not know economics at all.
