The wage bill has gone up because this administration has not been able to contain inflation and the value of the cedi has depreciated due to the bad policies of this useless and incompetent President and his dumb Ministers who are not even qualified to be dog catchers.

It is true that the wage bill went up from 2 billion to 10 billion because of implementation of the single spine pay structure system. Like the National Health Ins program which required cash flow to function, and are cost intensive, NPP administration initiated the policies but they were out when implementation started. Since NDC administration did not abandon those good policies they have struggled but got them working and sustainable. As a result wages now take about 70% of the national revenue. And you think the wage bill went up to 10 billion from 2.5 billion because of inflation? Are you serious and you have nerve to insult thus: "incompetent President and his dumb Ministers", and question somebody's economic savvy integrity? It is a pity.

When Npp was leaving office, the cedi was exchanging at $1.00 to GHc 1.20 Now the cedi is exchanging to the dollar at $1.00 to GHc 3.95, more than three times at the time of Npp leaving office. In essence, the cedi has depreciated over 335% since Npp left office.

Just use your common sense even if you have no economics education. The government workforce has not increased significantly from 2009 to present and the purchasing power of workers has not gone up despite their wage increase and as a matter of fact, workers were far better off in 2008, so what do you think is the reason.

I will just clue you in to just two consumer items, electricity and water bill have increased more than twenty times what it used to be in 2008. Don't even think of petrol prices and you are doubting my inflation example? You need economics education.

Now I am making 1,200 cedis a month but my rent at the same room is now 150 cedis and my electricity is about 80 cedis a month. Life is now hard than when I used to make three hundred cedis so if it is not inflation and the cedi losing a lot of its value as Mr Sarpong wrote, can you explain the reason? It is not like the wage bill has gone up and workers are enjoying better living conditions. Life is worse now than it was in 2008.

"He said while the NPP was dealing with an annual wage envelope of at most GHS2.5billion, the NDC “for some years now is having to find resources to take care of a staggering GHC10 billion plus every year to take care of wages.”

WAGE BILL increase from 2.5 billion to 10 billion is not due to inflation and cedi value. The increase is due to the wage structure enhancement compounded by the free National Health Ins. It is true that there is high inflation rate and the cedi value is a bit up, but they are not the cause of high wage bill. The 1.50 cedi exchange rate right after the devaluation was not realistic. It became realistic after a while.

Economic hardship is a condition every political party uses in election time because it is a situation. When Obama took over from Bush 2008 US economy was in mid recession. Unemployment was 15%, real estate industry and financial institutions were chocking to death. Now unemployment is down to 4.5%, housing markets and financial institutions are booming, the economy is healthy yet not everyone is feeling it. It is 1 to 2% of the rich who do not feel a pinch of economic hardship. So Republicans are using economic hardship against Obama/Clinton administration in the elections campaign. The 2008 worst recession period is forgotten.

UK, France, Germany Italy, Greece forget about our sister African countries all have economic problems.

NPP Claims JM Is Incompetent?
Let’s Assist Them To Know The Real Definition of Incompetence

i. Incompetence is when a government sets a budget deficit target of 4% in 2008 but finishes the year at 15% deficit- thus missing the target by a massive 11%- and in the process recording the highest budget overrun since 1993.

ii. Incompetence is when a government sets out to build four major road projects (Gang of four) without even knowing where the finance is coming from.

iii. Incompetence is when a whole government gets scammed by a phantom “IFC” company and goes through the global humiliation of chasing a non-existent $1b all the way into a hairdressing saloon.

iv. Incompetence is when a government sets up a whole ministry for railways and still fail to deliver one centimeter of railway line but instead preside over the sale of some of old lines as scrap.

v. Incompetence is when you praise the macro economic performance during the period of President Mills while attacking President Mahama’s handling of the economy from 2013 to date without realizing that it was the same President Mahama, who as Vice President was the Chairman of the Economic Management team between 2009 and 2012.

vi. Incompetence is when a Flagbearer who is making claims of being able to transform Ghana, was unable to provide even basic potable water to his own constituency even though he was MP for 12 years and cabinet minister as 7 years.

vii. Incompetence is when a running mate goes round promising to remove taxes on pensions without even knowing no tax exists on pensions in Ghana.

viii. Incompetence is when a party fails to appreciate that one cannot simultaneously be opposed to increased taxation and increased borrowing while at the same time claim to be able to bring transformation and prosperity to Ghana.

ix. Incompetence is when a government is given the full details of the location of a cocaine carrying vessel but was still unable to prevent the vanishing of the cargo of cocaine when the vessel docked on our shores.

x. Incompetence is when a flagbearer at a presidential debate, says free SHS is the answer to the problem of maternal mortality.

xi. Incompetence is when a running mate, during the supreme court petition case is asked the following: “Between a figure written on a cheque and the amount written in words- when in doubt, which one should a banker rely on?” The shocking answer from him was: “when in doubt, one must rely on the figure”. He got wrong, something any elementary banker knows. The Bill of Exchange Act 7.2 states, “when in doubt, use amount in words. In fact one needs not be a banker to understand this. This is the man that calls the Mahama led NDC incompetent.

xii. Incompetence is when a government mismanages the economy so badly that it is compelled to sell a precious national asset like Ghana Telecom just so as to survive. At no time between 2009 and 2016 has the NDC ever had to resort to the sale of a national asset just to be able to stay afloat

xiii. Incompetence is when a government spends 8 years in power- gets 11 times the revenue of a previous government and 4.3 times the loans of the previous government but cannot still not point to one regional hospital or public university or one completed affordable house.

xiv. Incompetence is when a government sleeps on the job and waits until there is energy crisis in 2006 before waking up to start thinking about adding to the nation’s power pool.

xv. Incompetence is when a government promises to reduce the import of rice by one third and in eight years rather preside over the increase of rice import from $100 million at the end of year 2000 to 500 million dollars by the close of 2008.

xvi. Incompetence is when a government in 2008 used precious resources to buy locomotives at a time when not even one centimeter of rail line had been constructed. One wonders where they expected the locomotives to ride upon? Maybe the back of the elephant.

xvii. Incompetence is when NPP increased the duration of SHS without corresponding increase in classrooms to cater for extra numbers of students coming on board and also provide for other key facilities that should have preceded the change, if quality was not to be jeopardized.

xviii. Incompetence is how the NPP pursued aggressively the attainment of single digit inflation and was to reach it for 8 long years except for one short month.

xix. Incompetence is when NPP in its first four years could not show evidence of any major road constructed in Ghana. In its publication highlighting its major achievements in first four years, NPP could not show one major road constructed.

xx. Incompetence is when NPP during all its eight years in office, allowed hajj pilgrims to continue to sleep on the tarmac at KIA at the mercy of mosquitoes.

xxi. Incompetence is when NPP claims that the patching of cracks on the Kumasi Airport runway in 2008 to allow for landing and take-off of light aircraft (maximum of 737 aircraft with limited load) during CAN 2008, is the equivalent of the complete runway overlay that the NDC has done. A rehabilitation that now enables the Kumasi airport to accommodate heavier aircraft and also handle night flights on full basis due to the installation of the Aeronautical ground lighting system

xxii. Incompetence is when a running mate does not know and does not bother to verify that the previous sealing of cracks on the runway of the Tamale airport and the provision of basic equipment ahead of CAN 2008 is not same as the recent runway extension from 2,400 metres to 3,400 metres, the provision of new Aeronautical ground lighting systems and modern navigational equipment to ensure safe operations, coupled with the pavement reconstruction and strengthening to cater for wide bodied aircraft such as Boeing 747 – 700 which is capable of carrying 500 passengers at a time as demonstrated during the recent Hajj uplifts.

First, he must have amnesia about the wage bill. Wasn't it the NDC government that implemented single spine? Wouldn't you know the impact of implementing your own strategy before doing it? You are in power and you can make the tough choices to reduce the wage bill, if you want...but the political will is not there. Also, the amount is so much higher now since the Cedi is 4 to $1US vs about 1.25 to $1US in 2008.

Secondly, it's not the wages that is killing the economy. It's the huge interest payments being made. It's choking out development spending.

Thirdly, if the Kufour government was 'awash' with cocaine money, it would be going to individual's pockets and not the state coffers.

Ghana was in a different era 10 years ago. No other west african country was stable and western governments WANTED to give money to a dependable, stable democracy. Kufour went around and got free money. His political opponents criticize his actions (I guess they prefer getting LOANS at 25% interest rates vs FREE MONEY). The western governments had it in their budgets for developing countries...he was able to get them to write ghana the cheque. I think it's smart !!!

The sad part about the current state of affairs is that Ghana had to go to the IMF to manage/oversee their economy. The government was not disciplined enough to do the right things. The current government, from their own actions, gave some of their soverignty away to the IMF....and thank God they did. If not, the Ghana would be the Zimbabwe of West Africa.

He was at the Finance and Economic planning ministry when the SSSS was implemented. It was such a total and catastrophic disaster, incompetent Kwetey on a program on newsfile, apologized for the very bad implementation of the SSSS under their watch.
Then they transferred him to the Agriculture ministry. The results were worse than ever before. Indeed, the Agricultural sector was chalking and recording negative growth under incompetent Kwetey like the way Mahama is looting the national purse, all into the abyss.
Then he was transferred to the Transport Min and then "bus branding" became a looting novelty in this country triggering one of the most reckless, unforgettable and unfortunate statements in Ghana's modern history, by Dzifa Aku Attivor that there was something very common to all Voltarians and it needed to be protected with dignity.
Incompetent Kwetey has never shown any appreciable knowledge or any iota of intelligence in the matters he seeks to talk about. And on the specific matter of cash from coca, one gets the sense incompetent Kwetey is going rogue and taking on his own NDC party establishment when for the first time in this country, we have witnessed a Governor of the BoG privy and very close to the business of coca peddling by his family and friends.
We have witnessed the Kotoko International Airport transmogrified into an El Dorado of Drug Barons and the preferred lounge of notorious and world acclaimed coca peddlers with very deep, long and lasting ties to the Mahama's.
We have had a National Security Coordinator whose bosom friend who doubled as the Head of Kotoko International Airport security was plucked and canned from his dealings in the peddling of coca to list but a few.
With such a record, incompetent Kwetey can only be described as having gone rogue in his discredited attempt to impugn on the brilliant, intelligent, competent and excellent management of the economy under the NPP govt which saw an economic transformation from HIPC to a lower middle income economy in a mind-blowing time frame of 8 years. The NDC party and gov't must not be parading such an unintelligent and incompetent Kwetey around, if it wants to save it's image from sinking further and cementing it as the most unattractive political organization in Ghana's modern history.

The NDC always seizes NPP agendas, of which they have not studied. They try to do them and do them badly, free education, school building infra-structure and mass spraying of cocoa trees. I can go on and on naming these so-called failed projects which have been mismanaged sending Ghana once again to the IMF.

Transparency, good governance, rule of law and prudent economic management by the Kufour administration engendered confidence in the system which in turn created an enabling environment for economic and business activities to thrive. A lot of Small & Medium Enterprises(SMEs) in Ghana could access credit at reasonable interest rates for business expansion. Besides the favorable credit terms then offered by the local Ghanaian banks, a lot of foreign companies and financial houses offered very competitive and liberal credit terms to Ghana SMEs. Indeed, under the Kufour administration, a lot of SMEs were able to acquire plant & equipment under supplier credit agreements from both local and foreign suppliers to expand their businesses. Today, under the Mahama administration, no supplier is willing to take a chance on Ghanaian SMEs. The Cedi has depreciated at an unprecedented pace and is still unstable, inflation is out of hand and interest rates are off the charts.

NPP Claims JM Is Incompetent?
Let’s Assist Them To Know The Real Definition of Incompetence

i. Incompetence is when a government sets a budget deficit target of 4% in 2008 but finishes the year at 15% deficit- thus missing the target by a massive 11%- and in the process recording the highest budget overrun since 1993.

ii. Incompetence is when a government sets out to build four major road projects (Gang of four) without even knowing where the finance is coming from.

iii. Incompetence is when a whole government gets scammed by a phantom “IFC” company and goes through the global humiliation of chasing a non-existent $1b all the way into a hairdressing saloon.

iv. Incompetence is when a government sets up a whole ministry for railways and still fail to deliver one centimeter of railway line but instead preside over the sale of some of old lines as scrap.

v. Incompetence is when you praise the macro economic performance during the period of President Mills while attacking President Mahama’s handling of the economy from 2013 to date without realizing that it was the same President Mahama, who as Vice President was the Chairman of the Economic Management team between 2009 and 2012.

vi. Incompetence is when a Flagbearer who is making claims of being able to transform Ghana, was unable to provide even basic potable water to his own constituency even though he was MP for 12 years and cabinet minister as 7 years.

vii. Incompetence is when a running mate goes round promising to remove taxes on pensions without even knowing no tax exists on pensions in Ghana.

viii. Incompetence is when a party fails to appreciate that one cannot simultaneously be opposed to increased taxation and increased borrowing while at the same time claim to be able to bring transformation and prosperity to Ghana.

ix. Incompetence is when a government is given the full details of the location of a cocaine carrying vessel but was still unable to prevent the vanishing of the cargo of cocaine when the vessel docked on our shores.

x. Incompetence is when a flagbearer at a presidential debate, says free SHS is the answer to the problem of maternal mortality.

xi. Incompetence is when a running mate, during the supreme court petition case is asked the following: “Between a figure written on a cheque and the amount written in words- when in doubt, which one should a banker rely on?” The shocking answer from him was: “when in doubt, one must rely on the figure”. He got wrong, something any elementary banker knows. The Bill of Exchange Act 7.2 states, “when in doubt, use amount in words. In fact one needs not be a banker to understand this. This is the man that calls the Mahama led NDC incompetent.

xii. Incompetence is when a government mismanages the economy so badly that it is compelled to sell a precious national asset like Ghana Telecom just so as to survive. At no time between 2009 and 2016 has the NDC ever had to resort to the sale of a national asset just to be able to stay afloat

xiii. Incompetence is when a government spends 8 years in power- gets 11 times the revenue of a previous government and 4.3 times the loans of the previous government but cannot still not point to one regional hospital or public university or one completed affordable house.

xiv. Incompetence is when a government sleeps on the job and waits until there is energy crisis in 2006 before waking up to start thinking about adding to the nation’s power pool.

xv. Incompetence is when a government promises to reduce the import of rice by one third and in eight years rather preside over the increase of rice import from $100 million at the end of year 2000 to 500 million dollars by the close of 2008.

xvi. Incompetence is when a government in 2008 used precious resources to buy locomotives at a time when not even one centimeter of rail line had been constructed. One wonders where they expected the locomotives to ride upon? Maybe the back of the elephant.

xvii. Incompetence is when NPP increased the duration of SHS without corresponding increase in classrooms to cater for extra numbers of students coming on board and also provide for other key facilities that should have preceded the change, if quality was not to be jeopardized.

xviii. Incompetence is how the NPP pursued aggressively the attainment of single digit inflation and was to reach it for 8 long years except for one short month.

xix. Incompetence is when NPP in its first four years could not show evidence of any major road constructed in Ghana. In its publication highlighting its major achievements in first four years, NPP could not show one major road constructed.

xx. Incompetence is when NPP during all its eight years in office, allowed hajj pilgrims to continue to sleep on the tarmac at KIA at the mercy of mosquitoes.

xxi. Incompetence is when NPP claims that the patching of cracks on the Kumasi Airport runway in 2008 to allow for landing and take-off of light aircraft (maximum of 737 aircraft with limited load) during CAN 2008, is the equivalent of the complete runway overlay that the NDC has done. A rehabilitation that now enables the Kumasi airport to accommodate heavier aircraft and also handle night flights on full basis due to the installation of the Aeronautical ground lighting system

xxii. Incompetence is when a running mate does not know and does not bother to verify that the previous sealing of cracks on the runway of the Tamale airport and the provision of basic equipment ahead of CAN 2008 is not same as the recent runway extension from 2,400 metres to 3,400 metres, the provision of new Aeronautical ground lighting systems and modern navigational equipment to ensure safe operations, coupled with the pavement reconstruction and strengthening to cater for wide bodied aircraft such as Boeing 747 – 700 which is capable of carrying 500 passengers at a time as demonstrated during the recent Hajj uplifts.
