By charging a person over any useless information, you are sending buyers to check what it is all about. By his own admission, how could he write a Book based on articles he read in Newspapers. Newspapers have ghosts stories which are printed as factual. Ghosts stories could be factual or fictions which can send people on wild goose chase.

All he could be charged with is peddling false information but he owe it to himself to investigate information contained in a Book he was putting his signature to. I do not understand what this lawyer is saying. Any way, he has been interrogated and released and perhaps that will not be the end of the matter or will be. The experts are doing the job. Ghana is moving on.

Society abhors those spreading certain harmful rumors just as it would those who originated them. So, even if it could be proven that similar slander as Dabboussi made against the President occurred in some Newspapers, he is still culpable for whatever illegality the action entails.

Ghana is a different country from all others. But the fact remains that many countries that criminalize insults against their Presidents would find no mitigation in Dabbousi's flagrant insult of President Mahama in the appearance of same in other sources.

An example is the current News of the shooting death of Nahed Hattar, a 56-year-old prominent intellectual and critic of Islam in Jordan who had been arraigned before Jordanian Court for his recent criticism of the religion. He was shot 2 days ago outside the Court.

The original critique was done by someone else and the intellectual only reiterated it. He was apprehended by the Jordanian Authorities for doing so. And while waiting for the session on his case to open at the Court, he was gunned down by some assailant.

International observers criticize the Jordanian Government for having publicized the Author's critique with his apprehension, thereby providing justification for some 'lunatic' Imam, Riyad Ismail Abdullah, 49, to inflict upon him a quicker and injudicious ultimate penalty--assassination.

So, it is not only the originator of slander or libel or offensive messages that could be seen or considered at fault. But also others who spread the bad message around. Sometimes, the originators even go unpunished, and like in Dabboussi's case, the one spreading the slander is made to incur the penalty.

In reality, the fact that someone else got away with a crime, cannot always be a sound legal defense for another repeating it. What is wrong is wrong! No matter who does it, or started it, or took it to a conclusion.

To be honest, Dabboussi did not claim to have read the slander from the Catalyst and Alhajj Newspapers. He claimed to have found the story on Social Media to which he never properly and fully credited the source. Dabboussi never named the particular Social Media he saw the information.

So, what his Lawyer is doing is only parrying the blame to somewhere else. Besides, since August 26, when Dabboussi claimed to have seen the story in the Social Media, he came to own it by repeating it in his Articles twice without reference to the source he had claimed in his first dissemination of the story: on September 06, 2016 and September 15, 2016.

So, why did he not check for the authenticity of the story before going wild with it on numerous occasions, if he did not intend to simply smear the President with its dirt?

Dabboussi made this conclusive remark in closing of one of such defamatory claims against President:

"Conversely, John Mahama has put up the most appalling behaviour making it seem as if the only head that works is that that is between his legs." (Culled from: "An irrepressible urge to father shame - An embarrassing presidency" by Dabboussi on September 06, 2016). This is not a comment he pulled from anywhere else. That was his own original comment.
