Nana Konadu Agyeman Rawlings is a royal of Ashanti and whose husband formed this ndc but Ashantis rejected her because Ashanti believe in prosperity in freedom, Ashanti hate dictatorship and welcome democracy. Ashanti don't follow because of a personality from their area or following sake. Ashanti know their left from their right and believe in what is good for them not what is good for somebody. Ashanti believe in progress and prosperity and any leader who is a dictator or a thief will never be accepted by them. NPP as party has been boxed into a corner from which they find it very hard to escape. For so many years the Party has had its core supporters from two or so regions, and especially since 1992, they have depended on Ashanti Region and areas with Ashanti populations. These numbers are huge and on a good day it forms a good spring board for their candidate to win presidential elections. But herein lies their problem When the candidate cannot do well outside these strongholds, then the party suffers. The minority individually cannot stand the weight of the Ashanti vote, but when put together like they have been since 1992, they are a very formidable force behind any political party such as the NDC. How can the NPP bring this fortress? I scratch myself to find answers. Maybe Kuffour had the opportunity to break into that wall but he could not give too many appointments to people who never voted for his at the expense of his loyal supporters. So the chance of breaking the stronghold of the NDC on these groups was lost. Meanwhile the NDC continues to nominate Presidential candidates from different ethnicities within its party and proceed to taunt the NPP of being an Ashanti/Akyem, a tag the NPP struggles to shrug off, largely because the democratic method of selection of the candidate would always weigh in favour of a candidate from these the Akan group, since they form the majority. So how then can an NPP candidate win national elections with this ethnic imbalance weighing so much against them? Two solutions. 1. Pick a Northerner as the Presidential candidate to neutralize the three Northern Regions
2. Pick a candidate with a high enough popularity across the whole country not just within NPP circles, such as Kuffour was in 2000. Is there such a person in the NPP? Ask me another question. For the moment there is none. So the NPP tribal card contintues to be raised in the Fante, Ewe, Ga,Nzima,Krobor, Dagomba, Wala, and Gonja lands while the NPP cries foul. But who cause am?

The NPP must find a leader who must be brave enough to look in the eyes of his followers and tell them " We cannot win elections with you alone, we need others outside our group" On this way he would be able to avoid the temptation of appointing executives from their main support base, Ashanti and Eastern and should they win, go ahead to invest in these areas with further appointments and developments. That is the only way these minority tribes can be detached from NDC. The IGP, CDS, Immigration, National Security, BNI boss, Fire Service Commander etc should not all come from one ethnic group as was mistakenly done during Kuffour's time.
