NDC is always forcing people to believe NPPs candidate is divisive. What is more divisive than telling a tribe to vote this way or that way because the president is from the north. NPP as a party has been boxed into a tight corner from which they find it very hard to escape. For so many years the Party has had its core supporters from two or so regions, and especially since 1992, they have depended on Ashanti Region and areas with Ashanti populations. These numbers are huge and on a good day it forms a good spring board for their candidate to win presidential elections. But herein lies their problem When the candidate cannot do well outside these strongholds, then the party suffers. The minority tribes individually cannot stand the weight of the Ashanti vote, but when put together like they have been doing since 1992, they are a very formidable force behind any political party such as the NDC. How can the NPP brake this fortress? I am still scratching my head for answers. Maybe Kuffour had the opportunity to break into that wall but he could not give too many appointments to people who never voted for his party at the expense of his loyal supporters. So the chance of breaking the stronghold of the NDC on these groups was lost. Meanwhile the NDC continues to nominate Presidential candidates from different ethnicities within its party and proceed to taunt the NPP of being an Ashanti/Akyem party, a tag the NPP struggles to shrug off, largely because the democratic process of selection of their candidate would always weigh in favour of a candidate from the Akan group, since they form the majority. So how then can an NPP candidate win national elections with this ethnic imbalance weighing so much against them? Two solutions.
1. Pick a Northerner as the Presidential candidate to neutralize the three Northern Regions
2. Pick a candidate with a high enough popularity across the whole country not just within NPP circles, such as Kuffour was in 2000.
Is there such a person in the NPP? Ask me another question. For the moment there is none. So the NDC tribal card contintues to be played in the Fante, Ewe, Ga,Nzima,Krobor, Dagomba, Wala, and Gonja lands while the NPP cries foul. But who cause
