The Ghana National Association of Teachers has described as unfortunate, President John Dramani Mahama’s unilateral decision not to restore the scrapped allowances for trainee teachers.

The scrap of the allowances in 2014 triggered protests by many people, especially the teacher trainees but President Mahama has maintained he will not succumb to pressure, noting he prefers to lose the elections than to restore the allowance.

Government claimed the payment of the allowance was having “huge cost implication for the national budget” and also caused it to scale down the number of students intake through the imposition of what we call the quota system.

Addressing students of the Cape Coast University last week, President Mahama claimed the withdrawal of the allowance has increased enrollment at the various colleges of education nationwide.

But the General Secretary of GNA, David Ofori Acheampong, says the president could have allowed for broader consultations before making the statement.

He said one of the reasons given for the withdrawal of the allowance was that facilities were going to be expanded to take more trainee teachers but noted that has not been done.

“The reason they gave was that they wanted to expand the facilities and as I speak to you now no facility has been expanded in any College of Education. Even as I speak to you today, there is a problem with the final years who are supposed to come out next year,” Mr Acheampong said.

Speaking to TV3’s Daniel Opoku, he denied claims by President Mahama that enrollment has increased since the cancellation of the training allowances.

Just asked any of the noisy NDC communicator the where the so called Day SHS schools are sited, and the 1000 schools under trees has been removed, he will refer you to their green book or ask you to get a copy tell you to get copy. Folks, NDC campaign message is a citation all the communicators has been taught and they recite on it radio talk show. "Private legal practitioner, Samson Lardy Anyenini late last year brought a suit on behalf of the leaders and against the Chieftaincy Minister whom they alleged had supported one Osofo to mistreat them using national security.

The Osofo was named in the suit as claiming right to the symbolic stool and skin created by the national house of chiefs to reintegrate disaporians.

Samson says that suit was withdrawn earlier this year after the Attorney-General (A-G) called for an amicable settlement."
The question is if the government has declared the status of the Afro Americans as an illegality, why did the Attorney General beg that the issue should be withdrawn from court. The answer is simple. Withdraw the case, kill the Afro Americans and case die.

Lambussie), another set nearing completion (Eg: Kwabenya), while others progress at varying stages as we note that contract awarding dates and capacities of contractors differ.

Indeed, Mahama will not be able to boast of even 15 of the 200 SHS's he promised to be ready by the end of 2016 in spite of the debt stock he has piled onto the country.
The leader of the NDP said it best when she said, it is either the Mahama NDC gov't is incompetent, corrupt or both.
Analysis of the situation proves without a shred of doubt the Mahama NDC gov't is both and Ghanaians say, he must, he should and he will step aside on Dec 7th at 3pm prompt because enough is enough.
