IGP's directive to suspend all motor checks should be seen as laudable. It prevents unnecessary delays, stoppages and extortion .That does not mean the police should not be on the road. Police should be there and stop vehicles that do not comply with the safety regulations of our roads and highways. Once a vehicle is stopped for any infraction or as suspected for criminal activity the police has the right to request for the driver's license , insurance and the vehicle's registration documents as done in the advance countries. This is a better way than mounting roadblocks.

It does not make sense for the police to be stopping cars indiscriminately to check drivers licenses and and the vehicles' papers. This causes unnecessary traffic jams and exposes the police to the temptation to extort money from drivers. The best practices are that, the police stop vehicles on intelligence tip-off or failure to observe traffic regulations or once in while snap check exercise on few selected vehicles. This means that, the police will still be on the roads to observe how traffic rules are being observed. In the advanced societies the traffic observations are done with the aid of cctv cameras so you hardly see the police on the roads.
As the police themselves have realised shortfalls in their operations and want to improve, we should be happy. Surprisingly the NRSC, who should know better, cannot appreciate this.

The IGP is in bed with Mahama and his government. A situation which is very bad for Ghana's democracy. This directive is senseless and I want to tell the IGP that at this very crucial time, all drivers have formed their minds as to which party to vote for and they are working in vain. All this unnecessary machinations are evil. What God has ordained, no human being can change. What is Kofi Boakye and others telling their boss. This is shame, the IGP wants to protect his position to the detriment of the larger nation.

We are always displaying ignorance in our fields of expertise. I don't believe NRSC will come out with this. In advance countries police can stop any vehicle for violating road rules. They arrest or give you a ticket for such violation not the mere standing at the road side begging for arms as done in Ghana.

2.IGP did not stop police from checking vehicles or from traffic direction, his instructions to the police is that they should not check driving licence and documents. Idiots should stop saying nonsense.
