In my opinion this precedent of disqualifying a candidate from participating in elections on the grounds that any number of its nominators has committed an electoral offence is dangerous precedent. If allowed to stand then in future the way to win an election will simply be by getting all the other parties disqualified by bribing any of their nominators to commit the offence of nominating more than one candidate. To my mind the just thing to do is to prosecute the offending nominator and give the candidate the opportunity to replace the offender with another. Placing on the head of the candidate the responsibility of knowing who is qualified to nominate, beyond the first line of checks to ensure that the voter possesses a valid voter id is unfair and exposes all candidates to unreasonable risk of disqualification. Indeed what has happened now is a subversion by the EC of the peoples right to determine who should represent them. This is a very dangerous precedent and those celebrating should be cautioned that if this is allowed to go, they could be laughing on the wrong side of their mouths the next time round.
