The truth that all of us must boldly tell J. J. is that he betrayed the confidence and trust that many Ghanaians reposed in him and his leadership, when he secretly accepted Abacha's gift of $2 Million plus.

It does not even matter if the gift was purely a personal, private gift from one friend to another.

After all the conflict that J. J. initiated around the Ex-gratia that the Liman Administration offered him and other AFRC members, people thought him to be an extraordinary selfless patriot, and the last thing on Earth anyone could have imagined to taint the Coup leader's integrity was any semblance of impropriety of the kind that gift suggests to many.

For those who were too young or too distant in mind to know, President Liman's overthrow, the eruption of conflict between J. J. and his rescuer from execution and commrade-in-arms, Boakye-Gyan, and J. J.'s merciless execution of Boakye-Gyan's younger twenty-something-year-old brother, Kyeremeh Gyan, along with Joe Gyekye and Giwah, among others, all predicated upon that disagreement between J. J. and the others over that Ex-gratia, which was just around $100,000 per person.

Rawlings declined that Ex-gratia, and criticized his fellow AFRC members, including Boakye Gyan, for taking it, because he, J. J., thought that taking it would connote betrayal of the fundamental cause for the AFRC coup.

J. J. insisted they did not make the Coup to enrich themselves, and that Liman and his cohorts were preemptively buying the Coup-makers' acquiescence to indulge in likely future indiscretions. He insisted their integrity could not be bought.

Besides, some of the Generals who were executed by J. J. and his AFRC suffered their fatal fate because of charges that they had illicitly received monies of various lesser amounts or enriched themselves via corruption.

So, taking Abacha's $2 Million gift, without accounting to the Ghanaian Citizenry could hardly be excused under the circumstances explained.

If we could all even agree that it was all a harmless gift, did J. J. pay any income tax on it? It could have added to his wealth. Did he declare it at any point in time, even as part of the exit asset assessment when his Presidency was over?

The reason why he, J. J., led the Parliament to include asset declaration for all our Public Officials, especially Presidential candidates, in our Constitution, was so we would know if anyone in such a position illegally or dubiously acquired any wealth during time in Office.

Would J. J. tell us that he did or did not declare that asset? Or he did not do so because he was above the Law? Or, he thought that it was so conveniently deeply hidden that the Public would not ever find out, or we simply were not entitled to know because it was his private gift?

All said, be it a private gift or not, had it not been for the Presidency to which Ghanaians elected J. J., he would hardly have attracted whatever clout that Abacha deemed worthy to earn the latter's rare and massive philanthropic attention.

Therefore, J. J. owed it to all Ghanaians, even including his current arch nemesis, Boakye Gyan, whose younger brother J. J. reserved no mercy to execute, the transparency of announcing his big fortune from Abacha.

It is shameful that he would not even now concede his error in that respect and keep bellowing at anyone else in Mahama's Administration that they are corrupt.

Well, these Mahama's 'babies with sharp teeth' may surely be all corrupt. But has J. J. paused for a moment to think his own action on that gift, at least, might have percolated to them to embolden them to be that corrupt, too? The fact is he, J. J., and all the corrupt Government Officials share the blemish of abusing our Public trust. And they should all be held duly accountable.

And J. J., in particular, has betrayed us all the most.
