Nana Akomea, you and the NPP know fully well that Nana Akufo-Addo is no match for President Mahama in any debate and that's the only reason why you won't give Ghanaians the opportunity to watch the two politicians debate the critical issues facing the country. Of course, you prefer that debate that was to be organised by the IEA because they're biased in favour of your party and as such you expected them to manipulate the event to work against the President and the other candidates and their parties while working in your candidate and party's favour.

The second reason you and your party don't want a debate by the two men is that you want to shield your candidate from answering some critical questions that he has so far failed to answer, the most important being those related to his educational background. Specifically, Akufo-Addo has been mute on the subject of where he trained as a lawyer and why there's a gap in his curriculum vitae. You and your party are quite scared that President Mahama might raise that kind of issue in a debate with your candidate and so you're doing everything to avoid the President.

In a nutshell, Akufo-Addo has a number of critical questions to answer, especially those related to his alleged corrupt activities when he served in the Kufuor-led administration during the first decade of the 2000s.

The following is a list of some of the corruption allegations I recently raised on this forum and asked him to answer. He will do well to answer them because we the electorate have the right to know the backgrounds of every candidate who's running to become president of our country. The ball is in Akufo-Addo's court.

1. Like former President Kufuor, you claim to be a lawyer, but you've so far failed to tell Ghanaians where precisely you earned your law certificate. We do know that you were kicked out of the University of Oxford and that you returned home and entered the University of Ghana where you earned a mere 3rd class degree in economics. You said your law certificate is missing, but are there not legal ways and means of getting a replacement of your certificate if you did in fact earn it but lose the original? And if you trained at the Middle Temple, how did you gain admission to that reputable institution, since its requirement is that candidates seeking admission must have obtained a minimum of a 2nd Class Upper Division degree and yet you obtained a mere 3rd Class B.Sc. (Econ.).

2. As Attorney-General & Minister of Justice in the Kufuor administration, you oversaw the de-confiscation of your cousin Raymond Amankwah, a noted world cocaine baron's frozen assets and returned them to him. This Amankwah was arrested in Brazil for cocaine trafficking. By de-confiscating and returning his frozen properties to him, you Akufo-Addo enabled him to get away scott-free.

3. As Attorney-General, you in 2001 suddenly discontinued prosecuting one Frank Benneh for drug trafficking, a case that the then NDC's Deputy Attorney-General Mr. Martin Amidu, had started prosecuting vigorously.

4. As Attorney-General, you failed willfully to prosecute three NPP Dzorwulu branch drug queens who had been arrested in February 2002 at the Kotoka International Airport for attempting to export cocaine outside the country. Not only did the case vanish into thin air, but their dockets also mysteriously disappeared from your office.

5. Unlike any other NPP (or their antecedents of UP or Progress Party) leader or potential leader, you Akufo-addo alone have been accused of drug addiction. Why so?

6. As Minister of Foreign Affairs, you issued at least 12 diplomatic passports (which actually were alleged to be missing) to your cronies. In fact, one of those passports was found with a Ghanaian cocaine deader who was arrested in Singapore.

7. The GNPC drill ship saga also hangs around your neck. What happened to the rest of the money from the sale of the ship? Remember, this case was mentioned against you in the Auditor-General's report. You're accused of having caused financial loss to the state.

8. And when the history of the Fourth Republic is written, it will be indicated that it was the Kufuor's NPP administration that turned Ghana into a cocaine hub in the West African sub-region and that you Akufo-Addo were a key player in that administration.

9. Indeed, as a parliamentarian, you Akufo-Addo pushed hard for a law, dubbed "Amoateng Bill", to be promulgated to essentially permit Ghanaian drug offenders jailed in Thailand to be returned to Ghana to serve the rest of their terms. What was your motive?

10. As Foreign Minister during the Kufuor administration, your Ministry withdrew US$1,446,396.00 from its Special Collections Accounts of seven embassies without the prior knowledge and consent of the Controller and Account-General. Also, an amount of US$106,168.00 was misappropriated at the Ghana mission in Cote d'Ivoire.

The above are among the pertinent corruption allegations against you Nana Akufo-Addo that you must address. You can't merely ignore them and pretend that you're uncorrupt and incorruptible and so ask us the electorate to vote foryou to become president of this dear country of ours. Which country is out there whose citizenry you suppose are so stupid as to ignore that kind of your background and so vote to make you their president? You must not be allowed just to throw dust into our eyes. So, please address these allegations thoroughly and logically, then you may be able to convince us Ghanaians to vote for you and make you our president.

The National Organiser of the ruling National Democratic Congress (NDC), Kofi Adams, has revealed that the NDC does not need an Institute of Economic Affairs (IEA)-organised debate to win elections in Ghana.

According to the NDC scribe, Ghana’s political rugby has shown that a president seeking re-election can win the poll without taking part in any organised debate.

He recounted that in 2004, the then president of the country, John Agyekum Kufuor, refused to take part in the debate but went ahead to win the 2004 elections, an indication that the debate did not have any bearing on the fortunes of the political parties that took part in the debate.

The IEA has hinted of organising its presidential debate programme for flagbearers of all the political parties ahead of the November 7 polls.

But the NDC has given an indication that it may not allow its presidential candidate to partake in the debate.

According to Mr Adams, some officials at the IEA, specifically, Dr Ransford Gyampoh, Research Fellow, Governance Unit at the IEA, who doubles as a lecturer at the Political Science Department of the University of Ghana, is on record to have made disparaging remarks about the Minister for Education, Professor Jane Naana Opoku Agyeman which makes it difficult for the party to take part in any IEA-organised forum.

Prof Naana Opoku Agyeman was among the moderators for the 2012 edition of the IEA presidential debate. She was appointed as Minister for Education as soon as President Mahama won the 2012 elections.

But Kofi Adams has said Dr Gyampo, in one of his lectures, subjected the Minister to ridicule and mockery.

He, however, refrained from detailing the exact comments made by Dr Gyampo about the Minister for Education that the NDC finds offensive.
