Ghana will only progress if NPP stops selling national asserts and NDC stops the huge loans but the people must learn to tighten their belts and work hard or we will continue to have the recurring problems.
Kufuor for instance did well with cocoa because of the ongoing conflict in Ivory Coast.
Kufuor had a very flat economy considering the amount of help he had.
I voted for him but regretted and learnt not to trust a politician again.

For Mahama to ask where are the HIPC funds, he exposes himself as either incompetent or a lying propagandist. Below is why:

First, HIPC initiative did not bring in new funds. Instead, our debt was forgiven on condition that an equivallent amount is spent on social sectors and poverty reduction initiatives.

The above conditionality leads to the second point. The debt relief is applied annually when repayment is due. Note that the HIPC initiative involves debts owed to multilateral and bilateral donors. The average repayment period for official aid from these donors is over 20years, much longer if you consider the multilateral donors alone. As we speak, we're still enjoying relief from annual repayment of debts owed as at the time we qualified for the initiative.

1. Nobody received funds. Annual repayments were forgiven when due on condition that an equivalent amount is spent on poverty reduction initiatives. So, yes, both the NPP and the NDC benefited in the sense that they didn't have to make the annual repayments that would have reduced the amount of resources available to the government.

2. Debt releif kicked in toward the end of Kufuor's first term and so the NPP couldn't have enjoyed it for 7 years.

First and foremost, HIPC did not wipe all our debt away. Hope wiped out only the external debt which was $4.5 billion out of the $8.5 billion Ndc left for Kufuor government. The internal debt was not wiped off.

Secondly, HIPC did not give Ghana physical cash. HIPC fund was just the money Ghana would have used to pay the external debt. The fund was structured like this. Let's say Ghana was to pay $100 million of the debt every year, since the debt was forgiven, the $100 million we would have used this year to pay part of the debt was put in a special account for special projects .

This Mahama incompetent government is still enjoying the HIPC initiative so it is very dumb, really dumb for him to ask about where the HIPC money is as if we were receiving money from somewhere.

Mahama and every person in the World know that the repayment forgiveness went into building few toilets and painting other toilets with the big sign “HIPC initiatives” that was a disgrace. That money went into the looting brigades pockets; that money was not used productively to benefit Ghanaian economy. Mills government received HIPC funds and Mahama government continue to receive HIPC funds. A few days ago, he went shouting on top of his voice that he does not know the cost of the currency change in 2007. Then Bawumia came out and directed him and within minutes the press traced it out for him. Today, he says he does not know the whereabouts of HIPC FUNDS since he NDC took over power in 2008. 1) Mahama knows very well that nobody writes you a cheque for HIPC funds. Thus no additional funds came to the NPP government, or to the NDC for that matter, although it continues to enjoy HIPC benefits. Rather, the government is forgiven debt payments due so long as an equivalent amount is invested in poverty reduction programmes.
2) After months and years of defending his Government's unprecedented debt accumulation as "smart borrowing, is Mahama now denying that he has "borrowed plenty"? Or has he just realised that Ghanaians are not swallowing the "smart borrowing" bait?
3) Will the President please stop throwing dust into our eyes with this "our debt profile is $24 million" business? If you borrow $39 million in dollars, you pay back $39 million in dollars, not $24 million, no matter the level of depreciation of the cedi. The President and his economic advisors know this. But they are counting on Ghanaians' ignorance. This is beneath the President. He should leave such lies to Fiifi Kwetey and Co.
