Marijuana: Effects of Weed on Brain and the body.

Marijuana is a combination of shredded leaves, stems and flower buds of the Cannabis sativa plant. Marijuana can be smoked, eaten, vaporized, brewed and even taken topically, but most people smoke it.

The intoxicating chemical in marijuana is tetrahydracannabinol, or THC. According to research from the Potency Monitoring Project, the average THC content of marijuana has soared from less than 1 percent in 1972, to 3 to 4 percent in the 1990s, to nearly 13 percent today. The increased potency makes it difficult to determine the short- and long-term effects of marijuana.

How cannabis is consumed

In a 2010 National Survey on Drug Use and Health (NSDUH), 17.4 million people in the United States said they had used marijuana in the past month. According to the survey, marijuana is the most commonly used illegal drug. About 4 in 10 Americans have used marijuana at least once in their lives, according to the National Institutes of Health.

Marijuana is usually smoked, according to the National Institute on Drug Abuse (NIDA). The cannabis (called "pot," "weed," "grass," etc.) is typically spread on rolling papers and formed into a cigarette, often referred to as a joint, or a cigar-like blunt. Smoking releases the THC, which is absorbed into the blood stream through the lungs. Glass pipes, bubblers and bongs are other ways to smoke marijuana.

Marijuana can also be ingested in food,,Aside from the popular “pot brownie,” edible marijuana can be added to a number of foods, including candy, ice cream and butter.

Marijuana reaches the same pleasure centers in the brain that are targeted by heroin, cocaine and alcohol.

Depending on the quantity, quality and method of consumption, marijuana can produce a feeling of euphoria — or high — by stimulating brain cells to release the chemical dopamine. When smoked or otherwise inhaled, the feeling of euphoria is almost immediate. When ingested in food, it takes much longer, even hours, for the drug to signal the brain to release the dopamine, according to the National Institutes of Health.

Other changes in mood can occur, with relaxation frequently being reported. Some users experience heightened sensory perception, with colors appearing more vivid and noises being louder. For some, marijuana can cause an altered perception of time and increased appetite, known as the “munchies.”

The impact can vary by person, how often they have used the drug, the strength of the drug and how often it has been since they have gotten high, among other factors.

Other effects, according to the NIH, include:

Feelings of panic, anxiety and fear (paranoia)
Hallucinations
Increased heart rate
Trouble concentrating
Decreased ability to perform tasks that require coordination
Decreased interest in completing tasks
When coming down from the high, users may feel depressed or extremely tired. While marijuana use produces a mellow experience (users are sometimes referred to as “stoners”) for some, it can heighten agitation, anxiety, insomnia and irritability, according to the NIH.

Where is this village? I've lived in the Eastern Region all my life but never heard of this village. The chief equating road leading to his village to prosperity and the good life of his people. Thank God his subjects have jobs, good drinking water, electricity and don't pay light bills. They've good school buildings, a health center, the school children are fed, and their women have free maternal care. Nana your village is beautiful indeed.

The NPP collapsed the Volta Aluminium Company (VALCO), Mahama has revived it and it's making profits 2. The NPP collapsed the Tema Oil Refinery(TOR), Mahama has revived it and it's making profits 3. The NPP collapsed the Bulk Oil Distribution and Transport Company (BOST) which holds strategic oil reserves for Ghana. Mahama has revived it and today, it doesn't only hold reserves for Ghana, it also exports excess oil to neighbouring countries 4.The NPP collapsed the State Transport Company(STC), it is back on our roads. Mahama has revived it 5.The NPP set up the Ayensu Starch Factory and killed it. Mahama has revived and it's doing very well 6.Mahama has revived the Kumasi Shoe Factory 7. Mills and Mahama have set up two factories at Buipe in the Northern Region (Shear nut Processing factory and Savanna Cement Factory) 8. Mahama has reconstructed the Komemda Sugar Factory which is just about going into massive production of sugar to supply about 50% of our sugar needs. 9. The Aboso Glass Factory is being revived 10. Mahama has constructed a Business Processing Centre near the Kwame Nkrumah Interchange which is ready to provide Ten Thousand (10,000) direct ICT-based jobs. 11. Mahama has supported private pharmaceutical companies with an amount of GHc25,000,000.00 which has helped them to expand their businesses and now have the capacity to compete with foreign pharmaceutical companies. The same support has been given to some of our poultry farmers. 13. Did you know that about 60% of the rice we eat in Ghana today is actually produced in Ghana? This has been made possible because of the investments Mahama made in rice production 14. Mahama has expanded the Takoradi Port which means more jobs 15.The Mills-Mahama government built the Ghana Gas Processing Company. This Company provides about 50% of our domestic gas needs. There are so many others I am not able to immediately recall. Meanwhile, the construction of social infrastructure i.e schools, hospitals, roads and water projects also provide sustainable jobs. They enhance our human dignity. The NPP have not been able to, and can not dispute what I have written here from my hut in village. The things are real, not Photoshop. THIS IS why: 1. Every credible institution with interest in the Ghanaian economy, is predicting an economic boom from 2017 2. The NPP is so frustrated and desperate because they know that full the full benefits of these transformational projects have started dropping, and the economy will soon be booming. That means their party will "die" 3. Things don't seem stable for many people today because we are beginning to gain our economic independence after 50 years. This kind of transformational transition is normally very difficult. 5. Mahama is chasing Nana Addo for one on one debate on issues but Nana is running away with speed of light. # JM just needs your vote and you will surely feel his transformation in your pocket. What makes you think the Npp presidential candidate and his vice born with a silver spoon in their mouth are competent? Is it because their parents were able to pay for them to have the best education reading big books and can't think practically to apply life experience in solving basic problems in their own homes?
