For example, when the president was in my constituency, even though he came in the military chopper, he inspected some on-going and completed government projects. So why should he pay for the use of the chopper for inspecting government projects?

Now I know NPP has a huge problem. They know they are not going to win the elections so they are talking from ignorance. Why didn't they say the same thing when Kuffour was using government materials to campaign in 2003/4?

First draw the line between a sitting president performing his constitutional role as president and campaigning in an election year. What did you expect? That where need be he could use the chopper to inspect and commission projects in Kyebi or other places where his campaign train is, finish the official assignment fly back to base and return by road to same place. Is using the state security and assigned fleet not also at the expense of the state? Which of the two is more expensive? This sheer jealousy. It is part of the benefits of incumbency.

Akuffo Addo would have done worse if he was in Mahama's shoes.

They just must pay for using national assets on the campaign. Where the president mingles official duties with campaigning, the cost must be prorated for them to pay the portion used in campaigning. The safety of the president at all times is paramount and may necessitate such use but the norm everywhere is that the ruling party pays for the use by the president of national assets, including security details,for political campaign where equal access of same is not made available to competing parties. Currently in the US for example, the Democratic National Committee and the Clinton Campaign pay for Obama's use of Air Force One and associated costs on the campaign trail for Hillary Clinton.
