Ayikoi Otoo must stop his grandstanding and arrogant posturing as some exceptional Attorney of a kind that Ghana has never seen before.
If he has not challenged the EC on the incidence of those errors the Chairperson mentioned to ascertain no such errors exist in his client's Application, he should not call her a liar.
It is reasonable to doubt such a claim by the EC. And it is also reasonable to be frustrated by the assertion the EC made about the other errors mentioned. But it does not help matters to be throwing personal insults around and calling any Officials despicable names of that sort.
The professional way to fight for his Client is for Otoo to ask to verify those errors, and find the best legal way to resolve them. Why would the EC Chair claim something to be an error when it is not, knowing well that she could be called upon to proof them.
One must wonder why the EC, on its part, did not expose all those errors exhaustively from the get go so that the Court could consider a longer enough time for their correction. To come out after the Parties have corrected those initial errors the EC disqualified them on, and claim other errors exist casts a dubious cloud of deliberate frustration of the candidates by the EC. And that bureaucratic over-punctilious scrutiny breeds much distaste for the EC from all angles.
There are simple clerical errors that could be overlooked in every process without affecting the essence of that process. So, the EC must not be deliberately finicky to make it anymore difficult for the candidates affected, especially given the lack of time before the Elections.
As much as we could acknowledge that our Leaders have for far too long taken the Nation for granted, and still always want to take the shortest, but not necessarily the best, way possible to reach goals, we must give them a break to have the Elections proceed on schedule.
The hold-up of the candidates' applications must be a lesson to all of them, and any other entities out there, to take our Institutions more seriously, and not employ wishy-washy, haphazard methods of dealing with them. Our Culture of rampant fraud that Elites, in particular, get away with in the Country is what is manifesting in the shoddy way the candidates handled their Applications. Hopefully, they would not repeat those in the Future and the EC must not be coerced by the Judiciary to acquiesce to such incompetence by the Candidates.
We should all settle this impasse as convenient break for all stakeholders to allow the Elections go on as scheduled. But that should be misconstrued that the EC was wrong in calling the Candidates out on their errors.
Mediocrity and fraud is rampant in our System and it is time we had strong, competent and uncompromising Officials cleanse that behavior out of our Leaders.
Ayikoi Otoo seems like one such Lawyer who would always tolerate lousy performance and make excuses for them to earn his Attorney fees. If he were any excellent Attorney as he wants us to believe he is, we would not have long been held hostage to numerous Judgment Debts since his days as the Nation's Attorney-General.
Ayikoi Otoo was one of the Legal cabal that claimed the Ya Naa's Murder along with that of some 39 others was the result of Civil War and therefore did not merit prosecution. And now he has the b*lls to call anyone a liar?!
