Dear EC,
Sitting here I see good reason in your decision to charge GHC10 for accreditation of journalists. It is a small amount which the EC could have jaw jawed with the GJA before announcement. I have concerns for any setting of precedence that is unregulated. Today it is only GHC10, what prevents the EC from raising it to GHC5,000 come the next elections, as a means of keeping some media houses out. There is the need for regulations to limit the powers of the EC to set all fee levels. This year we have experienced phenominal increases in fees charged parliamentary and presidential candidates. There is no doubt that in an unregulated situation the setting of fee levels can be used as a rigging device to the disadvantage of parties which are not in Government and tend to be less financially resourced. Let this innovation of paying for accreditation be done in a regulated manner and not on arbitrary terms. Similarly I urge Parliament to take a look at the powers of the EC to determine such fees and set proper parameters to regulate its use.

We all seem to have ingrained into our psyche that every thing from government or any of its institutions must be free? What a dumb mind set? This attitude of dependency contributes to the corruption in Ghana. These type of charges are cost of doing business for media entities. Whether the EC received external funding or not is beside the point. If the media can't pay the token amount requested , then they should stay home. Not only is their stance embarrassing but childish. Charlottes Osei finds this skirmish very funny. And I am with her on this one. Go and pay.

She is working for president Mahama so she is doing everything possible to frustrate journalists. In the last paragraph of the article above, Charlotte Osei was reported to have given 120,000 as the number of early voters in 2012, and that the number for this year is about half that much. She also quoted 29,773 as the number of security officers and media men, but she could not care to disclose the exact number of personnel from the EC who would be included in the early voters.
This is exactly the way of creating apprehension in the minds of observers. If come December 7th, one party is short by about 10,000 votes, it is possible to manipulate the votes from the early voters from the EC because nobody would have any figure tom argue with. And 10,000 is enough to cause a big swing in Ghana. The last presidential votes told us that even 5,000 from one source would be enough to upset everything.
Please let us watch out for such deliberate ploys from the EC and other stake holders!!

To be appointed the EC boss to run elections in Africa,especially in Ghana is the hardest job one can imagine more than to be the president of Ghana,Let us give the electoral commissioner and her team the support they deserve to discharge the duties ahead of them to run tranperent elections that will let international communities to be satisfied with the results.Elections are won through the ballot boxe,elections are not won because of negative campaign messages and personal attacks to one another,insults don't win elections,lies don't win elections,crowds running around election campaigns don't win elections as majority of such crowds are not eligible voters, what wins elections is the civic education to party supporters a how to cast a vote that day because illiteracy in African elections is a big challenge.
