Can Manhyia decide on banning political activities in their area of jurisdiction? Greetings to One and All. Ghana is a Republic under the leadership of the President and all the agencies under the Presidency with a Parliament and a Judiciary.
We have the chieftancy institutions whose role is primarily ceremonial based on ethnicity.
The common roles played by these traditional leaders, are:the custodians of ancestral and community land; the custodians of culture, customary laws and traditions including history; the initiators and champions of development activities in their respective areas of jurisdiction; and responsible for the maintenance of law and order including presiding over and settling non-criminal civil disputes.
Theses traditional leaders do not have the right to ban any national activity within their areas of 'authority' and therefore they must be made to understand that whether they are chiefs of kings or whatever name they call themselves.

Customs and tradition has been practice before the written of constitution, thus Asanteman traditional council have the power to ban all political activities that will be cultivate to noice making. Ashanti is a state by itself and can decide to exercise its power with or without constitutional linkage.

Asanteman is a KINGDOM and nothing can be compared to kingdoms. You can not be a King and be just any person again. People have come 8 years and are gone but the King remains. And not just anybody can be King but anybody can be president. This is what we know and born with. political and state governance were adopted from Western culture and we are even pathetic we don't learn it the right way.
Let the kingdom reign. There's only King and one Kingdom in Ghana and few Kingdoms in the world.
If u don't agree with the decision, quietly go and stand in front of the Manhyia Palace since it's your Country and get all the big and Loud systems and speakers and dance to ShataWale... Don't make noise here

Manhyia can ban funerals etc which is part of our customs and traditions but manhyia cannot ban political campaigns which are national and sanctioned by our constitution. If manhyia can ban political campaigns then it can as well ban voting on the seventh of December in areas under it's jurisdiction. I suggest manhyia should dialogue with the political parties to find the best way forward, such asking the parties not to be accompanied by drums, loud speakers, horns etc during their campaign as a sign of respect for our tradition. And to those who become unnecessarily agitated when issues about Asante are being discussed should tone down because we all want the good of this country i.e. those who think anything Asante must be condemned because they are not Asantes and anything Asante must be supported because they are Asantes should desist from that behaviour
