The money was retrieved from senior politicians, civil servants and businessmen who agreed to cooperate with the investigation. The kickback scheme cost Petrobras an estimated $1.8bn, said company boss Pedro Parente. The scandal has rocked the country and led to mass street protests. Dozens of politicians and some of Brazil's wealthiest businessmen have been arrested as part of the inquiry, known as Operation Car Wash, over the past two years. Under new legislation, they were allowed to tell what they knew and return some of the corruption money in exchange for shorter sentences. 'Society at our side' Many in Brazil criticised the operation, saying it was politically-motivated and targeted mostly members of the left-wing Workers Party, including former president Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva.But Operation Car Wash top prosecutor, Deltan Dallagnol, urged the public to support the investigation."We will be defeated if society is not at our side," said Mr Dallagnol.Image copyright AFP Image caption The political crisis triggered by the Petrobras investigation eventually led to the impeachment of President Dilma Rousseff in September.Ms Rousseff was not directly implicated in the scandal and was dismissed for allegedly tampering with the budget.But many politicians close to the governing coalition were arrested and charged for taking bribes from Petrobras.Prosecutors say they were paid vast amounts in exchange for granting lucrative contracts to private companies that overcharged Petrobras.The prosecutors had previously returned $150m (£120m) of corruption money to Petrobras.

We are not asking for profit that money had made, we are asking for our money.
Whether it is Amidu or Fuseini the money belongs to them too.
It is people you owe the money not the government. The government dont take people to court. It is the people court not government courts in Ghana.
The government is quite because the government can not take a civilian to court. A court is a place where Ghanaians go when someone is supposed to break a Law.
The government can forgive a crime and JM NDC government can not forgive because he Woyome agreed he stole the people money. When people are following Woyome to pay back the money, he stupidly said is Amidu who want the money. Martin and us makes Ghanaians, the Ghanaians who are calling Woyome a thief for stealing our money.

But when presidents are in active collusion of crimes against the nation, it becomes obligatory for all to start asking questions. I don't know whether he used a dubious means to claim the money,But once the country or state examines closely and thinks that you need not receive such money. The only solution for you is to pay back so that you can be free, If you can't pay all at a time. I believe you can negotiate for payment plan and then you pay accordingly as has been arranged, But if you refuse the n that is where the problem lies. You properties would be auction and if not enough. you will be imprison for some number of years. To be honest I have the same problem in europe and I am paying back. So my brother Woyome if you want to save your life. Then follow my steps, It is a whole lot of pressure for the whole country to be against you my bro.
