The PURC is a regulatory body. That is, it is to regulate issues concerning the utilities: water, electricity, telephone, if I am right. How come a regulator has turned to become a supplier, just before national elections? It has even awarded a contract, worth so much millions of government borrowed money. This is not right. The contract must be cancelled immediately and those responsible for the heist must be hauled before the law courts. This is worst than a daylight robbery. And the cheeck of it all is that the hated PR of the now discredited institute was this morning heard on radio, defending the illegal act. Shame on this lady. Of late, there are too many women involved in shady schemes. In the past, men were seen to be the culprits. Things are happening under the watch of President Mahama.

I have worked with a Water and sanitation project with funding from a development organization here in Ghana. The kind of "integrated borehole" the PURC described is referred to as a "small town water system". Unfortunately, since they did not use what the industry experts call such facilities, our friends in the media misconstrued it and call it a simple borehole.

A small town water system will actually cost you anything above Ghc100,000, or more, depending on the size of the facility, and the number of people it is intended to serve. The construction is not cheap or easy. In some jurisdiction, what the experts do is aggregate the cost of sinking one borehole, and then get a number of boreholes and mechaninze them to a central pool. the water if lifted to an over-head tank, which is then used to supply the inhabittants of the community(ies) that it will serve.

To my mind, the PURC has not inflated the cost of the borehols if indeed they are small town water systems

Every state institution wants to create an excuse to spend money on bogus projects so they can chop. PURC is lavishing gifts on themselves because they make too much money and are not accountable to anyone.
