And I believe that it is an issue of the opportunities. This government seriously has created several opportunities through the massive investment into the education, health and gas and oil sector.
HIPC might have come to solve problem, but it could be for the long term, but what Mahama and his administration are doing is to create the chance for all to drink from a common source. Prosperity for all.

The HIPC fund was wasted on 2x4 toilets and the so-called Jubilee Parks and chunk shared and pocketed by Kufour and his cohorts.
When I see those toilets today, my heart bleeds.
Debts were forgiven, meaning neither principal nor interest was payable but they wasted such opportunity to put Ghana on a good pedestal.
I for one, I'm always surprised they wanted Ghana to fall into their hands again. God forbid. I say God forbid is my fervent prayer.

Anybody with half a brain knows that initiating consumption programs such as free health care, school feeding, single spine salary, etc . without the mechanism to pay/support them is not sustainable. At least Npp could have made an effort to close the widespread corruption (ghost names) in the public sector such as health and education system by automating the pay structure. Developed countries that offer these free programs have government pay/tax system well structured in such a way that everyone pays their fair share. You don't just wake up one day and initiate freebies. I wonder where the master economist Bawumia was when these decisions were taking place.

Your name suggests a man of wisdom but your argument lack substance.what do you think is the difference between the western free market economies and the Mahama's commodities based economy, whiles the Americans and other western economies encourage the consumer to spend and drive up manufacturing and productivity by lending to the consumer , the Manama voodoo economy borrows from the local commercial banks to finance projects which will take generations to yield the needed dividend ,so as a results the small scale businesses find it difficult to access to the needed financing which makes it difficult for them to expand and create jobs, and this government's penchant for borrowing is what turns to send interest rates skyrocketing. So Mr Awuah I would rather go with the Npp.

Pee, if NPP comes to power and focuses all our resources and taxes on building only schools and roads, I will vote against them in 2020. Governance is not only about building infrastructure, you need to put good policies in place which will enable the ordinary man and woman fend for themselves, which will help private businesses to thrive and employ the numerous unemployed youth. This deceptive talk about Mahama having Nkrumah's character and vision is an exercise in mediocrity to borrow Mahama's own words. We all have our own views of how we want our country to develop, I do not want hand outs from the government, I want a government that will create a conducive business environment, not one that will tax our already struggling business and spend it on over inflated contracts and infrastructure. What I hate about this government is it's tunnel vision, all they tout as achievement is building infrastructure whiles the economy struggles, businesses collapsing and people losing their jobs. NDC focuses on infrastructure because that is where they make their money through inflating contracts and creaming off the top whiles the masses suffer through bad policies and poor economic performance. Pee, president Kufuor was thinking of tomorrow when he implemented school feeding programme, NHIS, capitation grant construction of numerous roads, focusing on finding Oil in commercial quantity etc yet people like you voted against his party. Now JM has taken this country back 10 years in terms of economic development and you say what? So Pee, go and vote for JM whiles many of us go and vote for Nana Addo for a change in direction, an incorruptible leader with a vision to transfer the economy for us the ordinary people to be able to build our small businesses and provide for our children and grand children. Enjoy your day.

This is a fact, the NPP for their eight years in power, only created a false impression with their claim of creating prosperity for all.
The best way to achieve worth for all is to create the avenue through expanding the base of our economy and its is the best way the NDC government under the leadership of his excellency President Mahama has created.

Hmmm. You are in a way spot on your econoic perforance and assessment of the NPP.
The School Feeding Program, National Health Insurance and others were not sustainable in the long term because, they were not self financing. So the NPP blew the golden opportunity that was presented to Ghana in huge debt write offs and available cheap Loans in the financial Market before the advent of the 2008 financial crisis. The NPP wanted to show case cosmetic prosperity. Prof Mills government came to meet the world recession in 2008/09.

O, so sorry. When did public servants made politicians. Indeed our constitution needs to be reviewed again. We need a constitution which will limit the powers of our Presidents, while rather helping to build stronger institutions. This man knows he will lose his job should his boss, President Mahama loses. Therefore, he would have to defend him at all cost to the detriment of mother Ghana. With the current dispensation, we will continue to have sycophants instead of professionals as managers of our economy and institutions. So Mister Awuah Darko, don't worry at all. The facts show the NPP from 2001-2008 invested more in infrastructure or capital expenditure at about 7.4% without oil revenue, as compared to the NDC which is investing less than about 3% in infrastructure over the past 8 years. and that is why for example, the NPP in 8 years with GHc 20 billion cedis constructed 8 interchanges in 8 years and NDC with a whooping quarter of a trillion cedis ie GHc 248 billion cedis in 8 years, has constructed just one interchange.
Does Awuah Darko know why it is so?
It is because as opposed to the NPP, which actually invested in the economy and the creation of jobs, with available credit for businesses through dynamic and forward looking programs and policies and at the same time, addressed the needs of the masses who were more vulnerable through social protection programs, the NDC has borrowed to loot through bloated sole-sourced contracts and dubious stealing and thieving schemes and therefore cannot fund these programs leading to it's collapse.
This is aside of the huge percentage of GDP which is spent to pay down the ballooning debt which accrues interests in the billions depriving critical sectors of the needed investment to ensure growth. Indeed, the amount of money spent to service debts in a year surpasses the budget of about 6-8 Ministries combined.
NPP did not give Ghanaians a false sense of prosperity. It was a real sense of prosperity with economic growth at a staggering 8.4% and a transition of Ghana's economy to lower middle income economy from HIPC.
Mahama is tired, cannot see his way clear, has corrupted Ghana's development through looting and thievery with incompetence to boot and he will step aside this December.
Awuah Darko if he gets the opportunity whilst sitting in opposition after December 7th, can read "The State of Ghana's Economy-A foundation of Straw or Concrete" by the brilliant Economist Alhaji Dr. Mahammadu Bawumia and he will get a clue.
To quote James Carville, "It's the economy, stoooopppiiiddddd"!!!.

People who have successfully run their own businesses when in govt with principles achieve more results. As someone whose father thru the benefit of education (Nkrumah's education, I am sure) left Kwame Awuah Darko and his brothers a legacy he and your siblings have tripled and quadrupled through their own hardwork and discipline, I can only expect the best from Kwame Awuah Darko.

Most of my adolescent life was shaped by the last eight years of the NPP and so I have an acute sense of judgment of the performance of the government of the day. And I remember like yesterday because the struggle was real.
That is why Mr. Awuah Darko cannot be faulted and I agree with him strongly! Truth be told, the last eight years of NPP administration, for me was a disappointment. And that is why it surprises me big time the posture the opposition has assumed -- painting a gloomy picture of eight years of water shortage, power crises, crippled payroll system, and a feeble economy forcefully ressurected by re-denomination etc etc.
Many of the last minute measures and steps the government took, when change was imminent, continues to hurt the economy. When a government triples national debt after being lifted off debt distress; introduces a health insurance scheme with over-the-counter HIPC agreement without sustainability plan and redenominate its currency to temporarily hide the economic distress; plus irrational subsidies to create the impression of a nonexistent robust welfare system at a time when change was imminent; yet insist to have the master key to the economy, one is only left to wonder exactly what that means.

It's impossible to watch this man speak and not fall in love with his intellect and, hey, his good looks! How come the NDC has not been projecting all over the place? I knew him as a party person, but didnt know anything further until I watched him last week. I love him and I think he should consider running for President. Heard he is a very rich businessman and his family is among the richest in Ghana. Me as for me, where Ghana has reached we want people like him who have run successful businesses and can make Ghana work without any benefit to themselves.
I hope this great guy is not deterred by some uncivilized Ghanaians and their insulting comments under anonymity. God Bless Ghana and may we have good men with good intentions willing to sacrifice for Ghana to take over.
