Sometime it beats my imagination and so taken aback the way some people in Ghana seek to portray Akans all in the name of scoring political points to want to capture and exercise power in Ghana just to have the vast wealth available in the country. This is so dangerous. Ghana has been relatively peaceful all because the Akans have been a peaceful people throughout even despite widespread provocations against them. Our lands are so open to all peoples from all corners of Ghana. People migrate there, take on employment, acquire lands, establish and entrench their families, take positions which even indigenous Akans could only dream of. Some even take lands for free without paying a dime. I remember when we were growing up this man from a certain region and tribe came and beg my grandfathers for a piece of land to farm in Sunyani - yes I hail from "Boahen K)k)'s land, Nana Nyamaa nanaa ne me, land of Asirifi Kotoku".
This man then used all sorts of intimidations and tactics and by the time my old grandfathers passed away he had literary claimed a vast portion of the land as his own. This is just one example. Amidst all such blatant opportunism and taking us for granted, other people turn around and accuse Akans as being arrogant, intolerant and supremacist. If we were do you think Ghana can hold. We cover major portions of the land in Ghana, we are greater in numbers and in wealth. If we were not inclusive as some ignorant people want to throw dust in others eyes do you think Ghana could hold. Its so mischievous for even some non Akan politicians who even know our culture very well and have lived amongst us for so long and benefited from our generosity and wealth turn around and spew out all sorts of allegations against Akans all in the name of grabbing votes to attain power. How hypocritical and ungrateful. All manner of false accusations have been meted out to Asantes and His Royal Majesty, Nana Otumfuour Osei Tutu, peace be upon him and may he live forever. If people have no respect at all for us then that shouldn't be a very prominent and important Akan king in Ghana who embodies all things the Akans live for. On a final note let all other people in Ghana know that for us Akans, we are welcoming, generous, inclusive, progressive, hard-working and and God fearing and we have been blessed by God because our forefathers knew God intimately from their beginnings. Hence they had a unique name for God which represented his true day of worship and they worshipped him on this day. Yes we are blesses and we are confident in our skin however people should not see these qualities and be intimated by them. We may be existing and know as the Asantes, Fantes, Bonos, Ahantas, Akyems, Akupems, Guans, Akwamus, Kwahus, Denkyiras Nzemas, etc stretching to the Ivory coast, to others but any true Akan knows deep down that our Abusua and Nt)n culture and heritage is sacred and this bond is so strong and unite as together as one big Akan family and no one under the sun can unite us as we are true cousins. We are the Aduanas, ?yoko?s, Agonas, Asonas Biretuos, ?ko?nas, Asene?s, Asakyiris. We are welcoming and all inclusive people and we want others to come into our midst, learn and assimilate our culture. No offence to any one oooh. I am just an Akan, and a proud one for that matter, I make no excuse for it and I love all men no matter what race, tribe, language or culture and love learning about other peoples culture, language and heritage. Just that I'm soo happy about who my people are, the Akans of Ghana and Ivory Coast. I don't know about you.
