A dictator, a President who throws people into jail without trial but on mere suspicion deserves to be overthrown. Nkrumah rewarded with a jail sentence without trial the same people who paid his passage from Liverpool to Ghana on mere suspicion of planning to overthrow him. Any nation that's not governed by the rule of law and order but by the thumb becomes a failed state like Ghana. We haven't learned anything from our history . If we're willing, we can learn from our history, reconstruct a different country in a few years and give ourselves an occasion for gratitude instead of repeating the same mistakes. Let's live so as to guarantee that human existence lasts it's full chapter, at least in Ghana. No problem is beyond solving. The process of living, when experienced with care and patience, will reveal the solution that any problem contains.

With all due respect to the Busia Family, the UP Party did not emerge out of any hegemony by the CPP. The CPP had not been in Power for any long enough time to indulge in any such dominance of its 'group', whatever that might be, as implied in this claim of hegemony by the Busia Family. Between the CPP and the UP, it was the CPP that originally had a more diverse base, encompassing all tribes, or ethnicity and classes. If the consistent loss of the UP to CPP in the many Elections leading to our Independence and beyond is what the Busia family regards as a hegemonistic domination, then the family should never hope to see their Party stay in Power beyond one term, should the NPP win Elections again.

We should add also that the One-Party rule declaration by the CPP would not have been made, had the UP not resorted to persistent murderous operandi to oust Nkrumah's Government, right from the get-go. That, in any fair-minded person's view would be for self-preservation by the CPP, and not necessarily for hegemony.

In fact, the creation of the UP was encouraged, if not forced by realistic circumstances, that the Parliament had approved the Law to ban tribal or religious Parties, any of whose persistent dominance would have resulted in clear and indisputable hegemony.

That Law was born to stop the trend of creating tribal or ethnic Parties as Dr. Busia's Congress Party, Okyeame Akoto's NLM, Chief Dombo's Northern People's Party, S. G. Antor's Togoland Congress, Akpaloo's Anlo Youth Association Party, religious Parties like the Muslim Association Party among others.

So, the UP Party from which the New Patriotic Party emerged was a loose amalgam of entities who cherished and hoped for such parochial tribal and ethnic or religious interests. If that does not leave a weak bond of divisive Politicking as we have seen led by Akufo-Addo and Ken Agyepong and Osafo Marfo, and others of the Akyem Mafioso within the NPP in recent times, then I don't know what else that represents.

Whatever unity that Dr. Busia managed to build for the UP has been long undermined by what we have currently observed with the Akufo-Addo campaign and no honest person can deny that.

If that was not the case, the NPP would have long chosen a Northerner for a Flagbearer. Akufo-Addo was chosen 3 times as the NPP flagbearer, not because he has been, by far, the most qualified in every instance, or the best campaigner. So, I hope the Busia family does not underestimate our intelligence to foist Busia's waned aspirations for his proteges on us as some Biblical edict the Party lives by.

The name of the late Prime Minister does not get tainted by what Ahwoi said of the current state of the NPP. What he said only indicts the current leadership of the Party. It appears the Busia family only came out with such a refutation of that assertion by Ahwoi to deny him any claim of sharing in the late leader's vision, and also to show some solidarity with the current flagbearer of the NPP.

In spite of our sentimental attachment to various Parties of old, we must not side-step the truth to obscure our own flaws.

Has the author of the statement forgotten the infamous "No court, No court" episode?

Has he forgotten Busia's infamous espousal of the tactic of attaining political power by courting the votes of the majority tribe?

Has he forgotten how a Legon lecturer was arrested for confronting him in protest at the suffering of the masses?
