Monday morning quarterbacking by NDC is not going to work and the jubilant NPP will have themselves to blame sooner than later if the NPP practice politics as usual. Mahama may be a good person for all I know but his failure is of epic proportions just like Kufour and J.J.Rawlings before.
If Mahama and presidents before him knew a darn thing about building the foundations for success they would have focused on building effective, transparent government institutions free of political influence but of professionals. Mahama and the NDC could not have transferred money from the coffers of Youth Employment Agency to engage in last minute political vote buying at the regions because the professionals at the Agency would have stood their ground against such encroachment.
Nana's administration would be no different from the Kufour, J.J. Rawlings and or the Mahama administration before it. To build responsible government institutions in Ghana under Nana Akufo-Addo is to stop the NPP from looting to get rich and the NPP is not going to be the only fools in Ghana politics. Ghana politics is built by thieves and vagabonds for thieves and vagabonds willing to be pied pipers for party foot soldiers headed for drowning in the sea. Ghana politics of retribution is not intended to correct past mistakes but to get even through emptying the national coffers to create rich party few who can fund party activities with stolen money. It's not Mahama stupid it's lack of foresight. Both the NPP and NDC could never get Dr. Bawumia to account for the cost of currency valuation exercise that took place under his watch at the Bank of Ghana then what makes anyone think he will be transparent in his all powerful and absolute post as vice president?

Yes, the problem is not Rawlings, Mahama, Kufuor or Akuffo-Addo. IT IS THE BLOODY DUOPOLY! It is not incomprehensible how Ghanaians could have voted for NPP or the NDC in spite of the sordid record of gargantuan corruption by both parties when in governance. The sad fact is that there is no progressive alternative that credibly organized with TRUTH TO THE MASSES to derail the two looting parties and bring a new dawn to Ghanaian politics. Also there was no media outlet that offered truthful, alternative, progressive thinking. NDC and NPP had their surrogate media alright spreading their false propaganda. On the ground, party personalities from the two camps used coded messages to play on tribal sentiments in Asante and Volta. In the end Mahama's incompetence, extraordinary corruption and lack of knowledge and culture brought palpable hardship to Ghana and most people could not help but vote out the NDC. They voted for NPP despite the Ghana-at-50 scandal and Kufuor's profligate corruption and sale of national assets at bargain basement prices, the currency valuation swindle etc.

Sadly, the revolving door of kleptocratic rule will continue for the foreseeable future unless there emerges a selfless political leadership at the head of a progressive alternative that goes deep into the trenches to do hard battle for the people's minds.

Ghana has degenerated and keeps degenerating from the progressive and pan-Africanist mindset to a tnoroughly neo-colonial and tribalistic orientation following decades of neo-colonialist military and civilian kleptocracies. Since the liberalization of the media in the 90s, there has not emerged even a single progressive outlet in either print, radio or tv broadcast. News, sometimes even about events in Ghana, come from the same old Western outlets. Most media outlets in Ghana simply regurgitate news from the BBC, AFP, Reuters etc, etc with all the Western bias, outright lies and propaganda as well as "false news" - an issue even currently being debated in the United States. Currently news about developments in the Gambia - a West African country in relatively close proximity to Ghana - comes direct out to BBC reportage!

Given the monetization of politics in Ghana, the non-existence of a progressive alternative, the average Ghanaian therefore has degenerated into tribalist or political patronage considerations. Who to vote for is decided by which parties one feels tribally comfortable with and/or can provide the most material inducements - bags of rice, roofing sheets, cash etc.

Until the emergence of a genuine progressive-Left alternative in Ghana which does the hard work of sowing the seeds of awareness, conscientizing and rallying the masses, tribal and material considerations will largely determine who the disillusioned masses vote for! And it will be the revolving door of one or the other of the two kleptocratic parties that have plagued our development with immeasurable corruption and incompetence.
