I like most of Uncle Kwaku Baako's submissions but this time round I beg to differ. Names are what identified persons. Flagstaff House I'm told used to be name of the place the agents of the colonial masters stayed and colonized us. Names have effects and I don't think we should go for this name that reminds us of painful past. If it was just about the place our 1st President stayed then I wouldn't have any problem but Dr. Nkrumah didn't give the name Flagstaff House to the place. The name 'Jubilee' that former President Kuffour gave to the seat of gov't is far better than the name that reminds us of pain and near-slavery. Jubilee means 50th year, year of forgiveness and freedom. It also means year of blessings. Coincidentally, President Kuffour built the new seat of gov't in the period of 50th year of our independence from the colonial masters. It was also the year Ghana discovered crude oil in commercial quantities. In my opinion, because names have effects, the Name Jubilee House is far better than Flagstaff House. I know President Mills changed the name from Jubilee House to Flagstaff House because Dr. Kwame Nkrumah used the place as the seat of gov't. I beg my Nkrumaist friends not to get emotional about this. Dr. Nkrumah did so much for Ghana and has been hourned enough in Ghana. Example, Founder's day, KNUST, Kwame Nkrumah's Interchange, Kwame Nkrumah FPSO, etc, etc have already being named after Dr Nkrumah. I am happy President Kuffour did not name the new seat of gov't after himself or after key personalities from his political tradition like Dr. J.B Danquah or Prime Minister K. A. Busia but he chose the name ‘Jubilee’ a name that reminds us of freedom, forgiveness and blessing. I beg Ghanaians let us go back for the name Jubilee House. Thank you all.

our basic n second cycle schools used to called jss n sss till kuffour came to power in 2000 n went on name changing spree..- from jss to jhs, from s.s. to shs, from Sankara interchange to ako adjei, from cantoments cycle to danquanh cycle to n now flagstaff house to golden jubilee.. the NDC have largely maintain most of these name change that kuffour effected n so why the hullabaloo..? ...now let me ask them a question...the manhyia n the ofori panin palaces in kumasi n kyebi have over a century or more have seen a number of redevelopments n reconstructions but have the names of these august places changed,.? certainly no..( I stand for correction anyway), so why this unfair n skewed ill treatment of what the NDC does..or did when kuffour had earlier done far more...
with the issue of the ohene djan stadium renaming we all know Ga-adangbe is one of the minority groups n languages in Ghana n so with the issue of the stadium it is very very obvious that with rapid globalisation n proliferation of media their identity n language is under serious threat just like any minority languages in ghana ga-adangbes do not even with the capital city sited on their land don't have a single notable n auspicious edifice or landmark that they can look up to with pride or that identifies or makes reference to them as a people here in Accra...so how fatal is that change...ohene djans did not build the stadium nor owned that parcel of land on which the edifice is sited accomplished though he was..he was an employee of the state so it will be unfair to do that, naming after that momentous edifice condering its multiplicity or universal functions but could however be named after say a department of the stadium , a conference hall or so and not the WHOLE stadium....Not at all...never...
why do we at all wants to have or operate two laws system in Ghana.., when npp does it, it is seen normal n alright but somebody else does it n hell breaks loose why,? we, I mean, kwaku baaku n his like minded skewed thinkers have to seriously examined their principle n value system whether it is consistent to the widely accepted view of equity n justice...npp is back in power with their warped moral pontification n posturing...fate n divine judgment awaits us all.,.

What is the relevance of the name Flagstaff compared to Jubilee? If it is for nostalgia then we better move the seat of government back to the Osu Castle. Jubilee is more relevant to us as a nation.

By using that name, we are saying we are still bound to their rule over us. This is one of the reasons the NDC governments do not do well in government. They love to connect to the colonial ideologies. When JJ came to power, he decided to make a slave castle his seat of government, yielding to slave mentality. Koffour came and said I don't want that and build a place and called it Jubilee House, saying literally that we are free and should think like that. Now NDC came and said let us go be to the colonial days, taking that mentality with them. No wonder the NDC government keep running to IMF to control them which always leads to hardship. Please let Nana free the government from that slavery mentality by giving the proper name to the office of the President which represent us all. Nana change the name.

The flagstaff house is a colonial legacy which entrenches colonisation of the nation. It is therefore a name that should no be used.
