We cannot be content with the directive from the police for the development to be suspended until further notice, because in a matter of weeks, the workers would be back on site, and it would be difficult to find out whose final decision that would have been. The regional minister must ensure that that particular project is completely discarded!!

The owner appears to possess all the requisite documents to allow him/her to build the filling station at that location. The appropriate thing to do now is to go to court and revoke all the permits given. Any resident at the ...

The owner appears to possess all the requisite documents to allow him/her to build the filling station at that location. The appropriate thing to do now is to go to court and revoke all the permits given. Any resident at the area can go to court with all the relevant facts. For the Regional Minister to place a 'stop work' with the work continuing means the owner is holding some documents entitling him to go ahead and construct. We are in a democratic state and any act of ours should be through due process. It will be wrong to organise bulldozers to the area and pull down the structures without court order. We should remember that during the PNDC era, a storey-building was pulled down near the airport area without due process and all of us had to pay dearly when the owner sue in court and won the case.

The airport city enclave if my memory serves me right, was not supposed to have high-rise buildings because of the proximity to the airport navigational controls and possible interference but what do we have now? When people get the power, they change regulations to suit their selfish interests. Lawlessness galore!

Creeping Chaos, you are right. This particular building was pulled down because it was alleged that it was built in a waterway. Incidentally, the next building belonged to Mr. Philip Gbeho and that was not pulled down!. It was alleged that when that building which belonged to an Alhaji was been pulled down Flt. JJ Rawlings was in a helicopter supervising the pulling down of the building from the air. When the PNDC era ended the Alhaji went to court and obtained judgement against the state. He had all the relevant documents to put up the building there. We should therefore be careful not to wantonly destroy alleged people's building without the necessary due process.

The authorities who gave the approval are the ones that should be called to account. Let's try to avoid lawlessness in the country.

As usual we wait for a disaster to happen before we act. There are more of these filling station in worse areas which are a serious health and safety risk. They will have to be removed before another disaster strikes
