Any nation that allows murder of the leaders to go unpunished no matter the lying propaganda justification is doomed to failure and that is a fact of history , NDC has continuously found it necessary to murder all Akan leaders starting from Kotoka's wickedness, to Acheampong and now Mills. We Akans can not call these Ewes and Northerners brothers if their most intimate desires is our destruction stemming from deep pathological hate and is manifested in their style of govt which has always been very destructive and retrogressive , be it the buga buga rawlings or the family and friends corruption/looting of Mahama. We thank Akans of the left wing inclination for showing their support to remove this criminal mafia by not excising their right not to vote and therefore leaving the NDC high and dry.They know the Akans are half right wing and the other half left wing so their calculation election engineering required that they stick to the hegemony of the Ewes and fantical islamic discrimination mixed with tribalism of the northerners and they would win hands down every election, little did they know that the ideological left wing of the Fanti speaking people and the Brong Ahafo are far more sophisticated and can not be fooled by no one forever. Next year we will see and witness the true extent of the destruction and expose with real proofs the colonization by Ewes and Northerners of the wealth of the Akans . Justice should be enforced not these fake laws that have so many loop holes that true justice in the interest of the people is elusive. We witness how thew Mahama family now have control of all natural resources including reserves of Bauxite and iron ore so frustrated and sabotaged every effort at industrialization and construction of railway networks as they did not want the people to get wealthy by adding value and exporting . Its easier to manipulate ignorant illiterate impoverished people. They snear scoff and laugh as they know these and other impediments and obstacles will seriously slow down NPP's deep desire to secure a true development for our people , yes the battle goes on and the only way is to cut these pepeni/ayigbe out of our country so we gain new independence.

It is the guy's duty as a Press Secretary to convey the sentiments and explanations of the President's to the Public. But he may well have been innocent in this, and only conveying the President's apology. So, we cannot rush to ask for him to be fired.

He could have put them in quotes and credit the sources if he wanted to avoid plagiarism. You can use someone's ideas and language but the proper thing to do is to use them well by crediting the person whose ideas and language were used. Where the ideas and language are used, they must be in quotes but if summarized, paraphrased or interpreted they must be they must not be in quotes but the person whose ideas were borrowed needs to be credited e.g. As President John Bush of the USA said in 2001 in his inaugural address in 2001 blah blah blah

I hope this plagiarism does not set the tone for things in the new Administration. Many may use it to depict how Akufo-Addo will not be on top of issues but allow his minions alone to decide on matters of serious national concern.

As the very first exposure to the whole World as Ghana's President, it was imperative that such mistakes should have been avoided by his team.

When Mills nearly chewed his tongue by pronouncing Economy as 'Ecominy' or something of that sort, in his inaugural Speech, the opposition NPP mockingly carried it all through his Presidency as evidence of his ineptitude and inferior intellectual prowess.

As flimsy as such an error of speech really was, it became an effective weapon that the NPP used to diminish the self-confidence in President Mills. And that seemed to have affected his efforts to command respect even among his own Appointees.

In this case, the apology issued may well be accepted by outsiders. But the internal opposition to Akufo-Addo may well use it to bang his head as some precursor to his dishonesty and/or egomaniacal self-aggrandisement--a character flaw that lets someone often inflate his or her abilities or achievements.

There might have been an attempt by Akufo-Addo's team to use catchy, high-sounding terms to show Nana's commitment to Democracy and good governance, and hence, the lifting of parts of some other folks' speeches without given them due credits.

All in all, it is not just how promising the words sound that matter as much as what one does to fulfill what they really mean. In the case of George Bush, among those whose speeches were reported to have been used by Nana, we all know how abysmally he performed as a President of the USA, for instance, lying with Cheney to lead the USA into War that took so many Iraqi and American lives, and burned American taxpayers' money, much of which could not be accounted for. Then also was the deep recession that his terrible domestic Economic policies plunged the USA and much of the World into, resulting in the collapse of he Housing business and Obama's bailing-out of Banks and the Auto Industries.

Plagiarism is very much a flaw that increasing number of people, especially, in Academia, are keen to frown upon. In some cases, it could lead one to face grave legal consequences. It is better to stay true to one's own, original, self, however modest, than to assume some persona that is much bigger but phony. The wife of the Donald Trump, the USA's President-Elect, Melania Trump, was recently similarly caught to have plagiarize a speech by Michele Obama, the wife of his predecessor. In her case, however, many seemed to have been sympathetic because English is not Mrs. Trump's native land's lingua franca, nor her first tongue.

In Nana's case, even though English is not his native tongue either, it is our lingua franca, and people expected him to do better with it, especially that many have always held his phonetic production of English as better than most Ghanaians.

This must be a lesson to all Nana's handlers for them to appreciate humility more in their future interactions with both Citizens and the World at large.

He is unable, or he's refused to, mention the name of just one Ghanaian colleague of his with whom he went through the ceremony of being called to the Bar. He also claims he went to the Middle Temple in London, England. and was thus called to the United Kingdom Bar. The problem with that, though, is that to be admitted to that prestigious British legal institution, a candidate must have earned at the baccalaureate level at least a 2nd Class Upper Division. So, the question is, how did Akufo-Addo gain admission to that institution, since he obtained a mere 3rd Class Economics degree from the University of Ghana and was therefoe unqualified to be called to the Bar in the U. K.?

Since Akufo-Addo has obstinately refused to answer this legitimate question, we will continue to raise it and similar ones until he answers us, for we Ghanaians have the right to know the true backgrounds of our elected officials, especially our presidents'. Unfortunately, it's only Kufuor and Akufo-Addo who have dubious backgrounds that they don't want the electorate to know. No one knows where Kufuour also trained as a lawyer.

For now, we must not be surprised about the way Akufo-Addo has started as President, plagiarising. Poor Ghana and gullible Ghanaians!

All without making reference to the 'original' author. That to me emphasises the importance of those words. While not 'condoning' plagiarism, I guess what matters is whether or not those words are applicable in contemporary Ghanaian politics, and can consequently make a significant change to enhance progress. These NDC guys should stop these pettiness and concentrate on the 'prison terms' awaiting them. In any case, per the laws on plagiarism, no offence has been committed since the original author, Woodrow Wilson died over 70 years ago. Who questioned Clinton & Bush when they used those words without referencing them? If these NDC guys are that learned and interested, then they should read more around the subject of plagiarism and avoid these petty jealousies.

My understanding is per the laws governing copyright, a statement which is made over 70 years can be quoted by someone else without crediting the source.

So, that portion of Nana Addo's speech was not an intellectual property of George Bush but rather Woodrow Wilson.

We don't need to reference Shakespeare, Loch and the likes whose works are over 100 years. Nana technically didn't err because Bush and the others so much cited by people are not originators of the quote. There are laws that govern copyright in each country. We are free to quote after usually 50 to 70 years of the author's death or 100 years after the quote.

You who call yourself Paa Joe (UK), you're apparently ignorant. You don't understand what plagiarism is. Plagiarism is not a question of the use of the English language. In this particular case, Akufo-Addo has plagiarised because he used the exact statements and ideas with the same words used by some American presidents in their inaugural addresses without giving credit to the authors concerned.

Eugene Arhin, Akufo Addo's Director of Communication, deliberately plagiarised parts of those former presidents' speeches thinking they would not be detected. And now that that has happened, he claims it's an oversight. How could that have been an oversight? According to him, he credited Busia, Danquah and Nkrumah all right, but he stupidly thought America is far away and whatever happened there was outside the reach of Ghanaians---in this electronic age!

At any rate, I'm not surprised. It's the NPP that's back in power, back with their high level of corruption. The very first official act by President Akufo-Addo and it's an act of corruption!!! It foreshadows the corruption Ghanaians should expect. They're just picking up from where they were left off. The Kufuor administration's track record of corruption is there for all Ghanaians to see.

And, of course, one should not forget Akufo-Addo's own corruption allegations. This very first act of plagiarising only reminds us of who he actually is. One must not forget that he claims to be a lawyer except that he has stubbornly failed to tell Ghanaians which law institution trained him as such, except to say that his law certificate is missing and how he was called to the Ghana Bar is still shrouded in mystery. He is unable, or he's refused to, mention the name of just one Ghanaian colleague of his with whom he went through the ceremony of being called to the Bar. He also claims he went to the Middle Temple in London, England. and was thus called to the United Kingdom Bar. The problem with that, though, is that to be admitted to that prestigious British legal institution, a candidate must have earned at the baccalaureate level at least a 2nd Class Upper Division. So, the question is, how did Akufo-Addo gain admission to that institution, since he obtained a mere 3rd Class Economics degree from the University of Ghana and was therefore unqualified to be called to the Bar in the U. K.?

Since Akufo-Addo has obstinately refused to answer this legitimate question, we will continue to raise it and similar ones until he answers us, for we Ghanaians have the right to know the true backgrounds of our elected officials, especially our presidents'. Unfortunately, it's only Kufuor and Akufo-Addo who have dubious backgrounds that they don't want the electorate to know. No one knows where Kufuour also trained as a lawyer.

For now, we must not be surprised about the way Akufo-Addo has started as President, plagiarising. Poor Ghana and poor gullible Ghanaians!

It may well have been an orchestration of the Otchere Darko's sub-camp within Nana's circle to keep the popular, eloquent, effusive narrator and English Professor out of the occasion. Mm, mm, mmmmm...! If that was the case, it doesn't bode well to Nana's success at the Presidency. I sincerely hope not. As much as I detest some of the Professor's interactions with the Public, I strongly believe such was an occasion his language skills could have been aptly employed to enhance Akufo-Addo's maiden presentation to the World as Ghana's President.

The Professor would have a thousand renditions for the same set of ideas Nana presented in his Speech to make them authentically original.
