  In fact if anything at all it was Rawlings who was in breach of protocol for behavior unlike an elder statesman.It can not be excused under any explanation

  President Rawlings stood up when the Chief Justice entered the chamber. Earlier, when the bearer of the state mascot (hope I have got the name right) entered the chamber President Rawlings stood up. The other times he stood up with all those in the chamber were when the Speaker came in first before going out with the Majority and Minority Leaders to escort the President into the chamber he stood up including when the national anthem was played.
  
  At the end of the President's address, we all stood up including President Rawlings for the national anthem. President Mahama was expected to leave the chamber immediately but he decided to shake hands with some members. At this time, everything has come to an end with some of the guests leaving the chamber. It was at this point that President Rawlings sat down because initially, it looked like President Mahama was going to shake the hands of all members and elderly people cannot continue standing for that long. That was when he sat down.
  
  Due to politics, some journalists are in the habit of trying to paint respectable people in bad light. That is dishonesty and must not be allowed to become part of our culture.
  
  President Rawlings is a meticulous person and most often goes out of his way to show respect at times, to even people who do not deserve it.
  
  Mr. Kofi B. Kukubor has written a very good article. It is sad and tragic that those who should know better (journalists) are most of the time rather ignorant. For example, the Ivorian President really got the order of addressing VIPs right. In any occasion where the sitting president is present with former presidents and the VP, the order is you first address the sitting president and the next to be addressed is/are the former president(s) before the sitting VP. That is the correct order.
