So, the so-called "legal brains and constitutionalists" in Ghana can’t FIX this little “address problem or accommodation for former presidents & vice presidents?"

The presidential or vice presidential residence should be a FIXED Address for current and future presidents and vice presidents. This shouldn't be a doggone negotiable item on the emolument list. Otherwise, how many times should Ghana BUILD new houses for former presidents and their vices?

I've a great deal of respect for our presidents, current or former, but what Mr. Mahama is doing is damn SILLY and a display of high-noon arrogance. The FIX should be just like what other nations have:

A) Presidential residence in Ghana, the castle or Flagstaff House or Jubilee House should be of FIXED address for all future presidents; &

B) The residence for the vice president or Speaker should also be of FIXED address for all future vice presidents and speakers, respectively, and not to be changed every 4 or 8 years.

Just try this out: The United States of America, with all its/her money, has a residence for presidents, called the White House and one for Vice presidents—both in North West Washington, DC. Even a billionaire like Donald Trump would have to live in the White House as well as any other billionaire who would happen to be the vice president should stay at the Number 1 Observatory Circle—the VP’s residence. The U.S. speaker in Congress has no government residence and so are all 545 Congressmen & women. **Reason: YOU GET PAID A SALARY AND SO SHOULD YOU PAY YOUR OWN RENT, JUST LIKE ORDINARY FOLKS**and Africa SHOULD STOP THIS FOOLISHNESS OF PAMPERING OUR GOVERNMENT OFFICIALS—by wasting tons of dollars on them!!

Lastly, President Obama and his vice, Joe Biden, are vacating their official residences in Washington, DC, but the American government wouldn’t pay for their private residences and neither would the American government pay for their offices—they should pay on their own. Of course, they will get the routine official retirement package, but doesn’t include a house, an office or a car. But the last time I checked, America was, and still is, the RICHEST nation on Earth? GO FIGURE!!!!! See, America teaches REAL responsibility.

Everyone in Ghana knows Kuffuor lives at Airport and not Dzorwulu. He lives in the same house that he lived in before he became president and continued to live in during and after his presidency. The house was renovated and provided with upgraded security systems at state expense which he is still benefitting from. He has a new palatial mansion in the Aburi mountains and one in Kumasi. His kids bought state bungalows at very reduced prices in some prime areas in Ghana as their residences. Which begs the question as to why he would need another house at government expense. How many homes can one person live in? and at 75? Does the state provided home revert to the state when the former president dies?
It is just greed and sheer avarice.
Mahama and Ibrahim own several homes as do Rawlings and his wife.
This whole system of free homes for former presidents is ill conceived and and stupid and should be scrapped. This is public service and when your time is up, pack and go to where you came from. You don't deserve a house for life any more than any other public servant. These guys steal enough money in office to buy private islands and do not deserve a thing. Fuck em!

And, by the way, security upgrades to a President's private residence is considered a legitimate expense in most mature democracies. Right now, security for Donald Trump's residence in New York has been estimated by the city to cost $25 million a month. And the taxpayer is going to pay.

The irony and the strangest thing is that it was this same Omani Boamah and Okudzeto Ablakwa who took Obetsebi Lamptey to Court over a residence; and this same Omani Boamah is now fighting to let Mahama keep his residence, which is actually meant for the Vice-President.

I think we ALL need to learn from this development, that WE MUST ALWAYS THINK OF THE FUTURE; DON'T DO UNTO OTHERS WHAT YOU WOULDN'T WANT TO BE DONE TO YOU, IF YOU DON'T LET YOUR FRIEND CLIMB THE 9TH RUNG ON THE LADDER, YOU WILL NOT GET TO THE 10TH RUNG EITHER (LITERALLY).

I am happy with these developments because I am sure we can ALL learn something from these developments, and always think of the future.

All these call to arms to force him out of his current residence is really unnecessary. Even for a compromise, we can let him stay there for 6 months to a year while he makes other arrangements.

Kuffour has been out of office for 8 years quietly living his life without what was due him as former president. Mahama thought it was okay to let Kuffour enjoy the pain and embarrassment meted to him by his NDC govt. He probably didn't think the tables would turn. Now he finds it expedient to request Akufo-Addo's govt to keep state property after having the privilege to live in house or bungalow for 8 years. NDC is full of crazy guys; they can't think far. John Mahama should better quit that bungalow as soon as possible..!!

I heard Anita de Souza's rants concerning this bogus request by John Mahama. She's saying that the NPP would have to kill all of the NDC before Mahama would consider vacating the govt bungalow. Funny! Has she forgotten so soon, when NDC thugs shouted and insulted ex-Prez Kuffour, to go look for an office in Kumasi because he's not a native of Ga? I wonder if she'd come clean on this.

The request by the former President is one of such thievery that cannot be justified by law. It is ILLEGAL, to put it bluntly. Accordingly, we have no doubt about the fact that such a frivolous request will be treated with all the contempt it deserves. We have confidence in you and so there is no need for us to entertain any fears of the usual 'You scratch my back I scratch yours' syndrome.
