My parents combined served Ghana in the public service for over 70 years combined. Nobody said they should have even one cement bag or a box of window blades for over 70 years of service. So that stipulation from hence, is not going to work. And let nobody tell me that, it will breed corruption if somebody who puts himself out there to serve as a President does not get to keep a house or get a house from the state. If decide to be corrupt, Ghana will push for your prosecution for your corrupt conduct, period. The decadence ends today.

The constitution allows for past leaders to be resettled. However the same constitution stipulates that leaders must vacate the house for the incoming government within a stipulated time.
It did not say the president alone can retire with his present accommodation.
So if Mahatma were to a patriotic statesman, he shouldn't have contemplated of even requesting of remaining in that house. That makes mockery of the constitution.
I will therefore advice KB that if he has anything, then he must tell it to the face of the President that the move he made was wrong in order to dissuade any future leader who might attempt the same thing. Ghanaians tired of this gravy train!!!

It all began in Rawlings era. Cadres of the bogus revolution took the law into their own hands shit bombing press houses they hated, shaving people's hair with pieces of broken beer bottles, etc, etc.
What names have people not called Akuffo Addo but no one whispered a word of caution? Where was Mr KBA? Mahama watched helplessly or perhaps with his approval when Kwakye Ofosu, Okudzeto Ablakwa and others used unprintable words on their political opponents. We're no longer the people we used to be. You open your mouth on social media and some people will be all over you like a pack of wolves in a second tearing you into shreds. I think we should take another look at our educational system and make some reforms. Obviously we can't continue and survive like this.

It is vulgar for anyone to be rapacious, especially in a country which has a debt to GDP ratio somewhere around 70%! As a matter of principle, I think the idea of the Republic of Ghana giving residential houses and offices to its past Presidents is a practice that must be stopped. Offices, yes. Residential accommodations, no! Especially when you are talking about a person who is regarded by the population as having grown insanely wealthy, along with all members of his family. The guy was in office as President for five years or so. He was paid a tax free 15 thousand Ghana cedis every month. He never had to pay electricity or water bills in the eight years he was Vice President, and then President. In that period of time, he had the ability to build a house. Don't forget there are millions of his countrymen who did not earn that much money and who still struggle for housing everyday. Respect is something that has to be earned - - everyday! You cannot be robbing me, and expect me to respect you. It is a good thing for Mahama to have withdrawn his request for this bungalow. I hope ALL future ex presidents get it out of their heads that the Republic will give them housing after they leave office. Just as I hope when they die, ALL ex presidents are buried in their hometowns, just as all citizens are. For heaven's sake, let the political class cone to its senses. Ghana is an impoverished third world country which is heavily in debt. Ghana has potential but it's potential which is not realized yet. Mahama should act with dignity and class, and we shall all treat him as such.

(3) The President shall receive such salary, allowances and facilities as may be prescribed by Parliament on the recommendations of the committee referred to in article 71 of this Constitution.
(4) On leaving office, the President shall receive a gratuity in addition to pension, equivalent to his salary and other allowances and facilities prescribed by Parliament in accordance with clause (3) of this article.
(5) The salary, allowances, facilities, pensions and gratuity referred to in clauses (3) and (4) shall be exempt from tax.

Parliament should be able to make law specify for every outgoing president instead leaving it blank for the president himself decides what he wants to take home. Kuffour did similar unwise thing, and the same thing Mahama is also doing. It is about Ghana must be matured on those decisions. United States Constitutions specifies it black and white for every past President about their pay and all other benefits. Ghana must stop the greed.
