Going purely by their family backgrounds, professional pedigrees and international profiles, Mahama, just like everyone else, knows deep down within himself that politically, he is unfit to even stand in Nana Addo's shadows. For it seemed inconceivable, let alone plausible, that Mr. Dramani commanded enough popularity in contemporary Ghanaian politics to beat Nana in a fairly supervised presidential contest, more so by a one touch victory. It was obvious to most critical observers at the time, that this was one of the key reasons that motivated the NPP to challenge Mahama's legitimacy at the judicial arena in 2013. Four years on, the overwhelming outcome of another presidential contest -- this time closely monitored by the opposition -- between these same two combatants has put the debate to rest. Under our fourth republican dispensation, Nana's charisma is second only to Chairman Rawlings! Some of us wish we could see the long faces of Afari Djan, William Atuguba, Tsatsu Tsikata, Amadu Sulley and all those who in dread of Akuffo Addo's inevitable investiture, employed their evil machinations at various stages to impose pathetically incompetent Mahama on helpless Ghanaians. I guess it's true after all: A man destined for the presidency is noticeable from a long distance away. But only time will tell whether the tenure of Nana has been worth all his struggles.
