I’m not going that far like Justice who said: “Ghana has really no future”.
BUT: The future of Ghana is hindered very much, by many things. Among others e. g.: As long as the Ghanaians are not willing to learn that “tradition” is not something statically. It has, by a learning process, to be adapted to the “now-time” and its changed values and conditions. This learning process is based simply on two things: Good and bad. The bad things should be removed from the revised tradition rules for the sake of a new generation.
If this simple fact is considered, no one, who is really serious can agree to that chieftaincy system any more: It’s simply overhauled and doesn’t fit into any society in the 30th century.
But this is Ghana and people are unfortunately very easy to impress and sometimes, sorry to have to say so, unbelievable naive, which some people, in this case the Asantehene use to their advantage, even if it is against established law. (Which is not understandable at all for Americans and Europeans.)
In no country which Ghanaians admire so much and want to emigrate there, neither in the USA nor in Europe, such self-opinionated behaviour would ever be possible and no one ever could put himself above the law.
It’s high time that Ghanaians wake up and learn:
1) That it took Americans and Europeans some time to develop the today's standards and to adapt their traditions, which, and I'm speaking now especially about the Europeans, they consequently did, because otherwise they still would be in the Middle Ages governed by many little dukedoms, each with an own jurisdiction and tax laws and terrible living conditions for the simple population.
2) Chieftaincy and democracy are two diametrically opposed things.
3) That it won’t work out just to copy or buy the American and European standards without having the deeper understanding by developing them on their own and grew up with them.
As I read in the forums of GhanaWeb.com, I’m not the only one, who advises you to throw over board all development-blocking things (e.g. chieftaincy) and roll up your sleeves and start to develop on you own, likely with some support:
BUT LET IT BE YOUR PERSONAL DEVELOPMENT AT THE END.

A simple comparison:
- World-war two ended in 1945 (72 years ago). From that on the European countries developed, some of them at point zero, because they where totally destroyed (e.g. the one who started the war: Germany).
- Ghanaian independence started in 1957 (only) 12 years later (60 years ago).
Compare by yourself, where they are today and where Ghanaians are today.

Two questions you should ask yourself all the time:
1) What would a chief (respectively) a president be without the population?
2) Who, therefore, has the power in the country?
