How can we see the nature of the future in 40 years. Even 10 years is for pragmatic reasons.
We can be specific about certain aspects of our development agenda and allocate the appropriate time as required but a one size fits all appropriate will unrealistic. We don't need to wait 40 years for a national railway authority for instance.

Remember Ghana is not Germany . There is nothing wrong with the 40 year plan. You can have a 40 year plan and modify it every 10 years when necessary . Short and long term plans are okay with modifications when necessary. ...

I agree. That is why there are milestones. Even Germany, USA and UK have development plans that span 40 years. Development plans can be short term, medium term or long term depending on what is to accomplished and how well it ...

I agree. That is why there are milestones. Even Germany, USA and UK have development plans that span 40 years. Development plans can be short term, medium term or long term depending on what is to accomplished and how well it must be accomplished. We have to give ourselves time to self finance some of these projects/programs instead of going around begging others for money or borrowing money that we can't pay back to the lenders

I know some Professor wrote about this in the daily graphic but as usual, the NDC never listened to his wise advice. Just google the internet if you can find a country with a 40-year development plan.

You talk about Germany, this is a fully developed country so planning beyond 10 yrs will not be a good idea. Moreover they have control over their immigration, fertility rate so base on those factors it is alright to do 10 yr plan. even that I can tell you for a fact they all plan beyond 10 yrs.
Think about this, precision medicine is going to affect health outcomes in the next 10 to 20 yrs, humanoid robots are going to take over most jobs in the next 10 to 15 yrs so do you want me to believe the developed world has limited themselves to only 10yrs?
every developing country needs to plan for a 25yr period with review of the plan every 2 to 3yrs if it reflect their needs as a nation. So Mr Marfo you got it wrong No plan is static but all dynamic changing as the world changes.

So many development plan since the attainment of independence.But the problem in question is do we scrutinized and make thorough analysis on that.

The NDC knew they were stealing from the nation so Ghana can't wake up until late 40years time but God being so good they lost...someone who plan for long term has no vision

We can have a 40yrs plan but work it out in every 10yrs. Remember we have long term plans but we normally execute them in the short run. NDC making that decision wasn't bad but their approach towards it was deplorable.

How can we re-brand buses with an amount the bus cannot recoup. Indeed, on paper, we have good plans but in reality, we are sick in the head.

I would rather have a shorter term plan well executed than a long term plan siting in a binder on a shelf. Shorter term plans are better because of technological advances especially in the area of public infrastructure investments. Fixed phones, that once must have prized gadget is dead, post office is dead, paper is dying, class rooms soon may not be needed. 40 year plans mirror advanced societies status. But those societies are changing faster that we can blink our eyes.Technological defussion is getting shorter and shorter obsoleting prior advances in human progress. We should be wiser to avoid wasteful infrastructure spending in our institutions.
Shorter term planning is better . Management of societies is like steering a huge ship in the ocean. You can't just turn it around once you have committed to a long haul path.

You are absolutely right. All development plans are not more than 10 years. it is after 10 years if not achieved then reviewed further. It should be rethink.
