I am an electrical engineer by profession and I believe the legal profession is not any better than electrical engineering or any other profession. The legal professionals are not the only group of people who are learned. If they are so learned as they claim they are why do they consult a medical officer when they are sick? They should also handle all the engineering challenges if they are so learned.Fact is the African is so greedy that they want to create a scarcity so that they always exploit the masses for their greedy and expensive life styles . Law is simply the application of common sense but these greedy people have turned it into a cult and a tool to milk the society. Lawyers in the USA for example are so many that every body seems to know his legal right. I support the scrapping of the Ghana School of Law and making it an examining body.

The same universities have experienced Professors that can handle professional law to any standard set by the legal council. Development must be retarded by "old ideas" that do not fit into modern trend of affairs!

We should rather have accredited law schools to be regulated by the Ghana Legal Council. This body should ensure that the teaching of law is at par with both national and international standards.

I would propose at least 90 credit hours of post-graduate training that will lead to a doctorate.

That should be the first level of standardization of legal training in Ghana.

The second level is the writing of the Bar Exam itself which could then be left to the Ghana Law School.

We should first make sure that the training of a lawyer in Ghana is extensive and comprehensive enough, before they could be allowed to write the Bar Exam.

I focus on rigorous standardized training in any and every "accredited" law school across the country. That also means we should upgrade existing law schools through rigorous regulation.

Thereafter, the Ghana Law School could become a mere law exam board where the products of the accredited law schools could go and write an exam.

The problem with Bentil's proposal is that it appears to restrict legal training to Bar Exams.

Yes, if change is to be realised then there ought to be real changes in many areas or sectors of the adminstration of our nation. Unfortunately these long overdue changes might have helped us in many areas than we could imagine. Why the so called law school be used to siphoned monies from poor people who are hoping to become lawyers.

There is no amount of words that can be used to thank those in high positions if they are able to effect this change in the process of one becoming a lawyer by simply scraping the so called law school. Why should we limit the heart desires of our own children who are aspiring to become lawyers? Are we abnormal?

This proposal should be given the needed attention it deserves by the government of the day in salvaging the situation of legal training in Ghana. There are best practices in many jurisdictions Ghana could learn from.

IT WAS AS A RESULT THAT PERSONALLY MAINTAINED THE "BARRISTER-AT LAW" STATUS THROUGHOUT MY STAY IN THE UNITED STATES OF AMERICA AND FOUGHT FOR RECOGNITION OF BARRISTER-AT LAW AND IMMEDIATELY THAT HAPPENED THEN GHANA GENERAL LEGAL COUNCIL AGAIN STARTED THE "SOLICITOR LICENSE" ISSUES.
HOWEVER, IN THE UNITED KINGDOM IT IS A TRITE KNOWLEDGE THAT "SOLICITORS DO NOT PRACTICE LAW IN COURTS BUT BARRISTERS DO".
