  OTIKO DJABA--- HER STERLING PERFORMANCE WAS OVERWHELMED BY THE MAHAMA APOLOGY
  The recent political campaign in Ghana left most Ghanaians confounded with the level of insults, character assassination and prophecies of impending deaths of opponents that characterised the campaigns. It is surprising to see President Akuffo-Addo campaigning in all regions, going through the swearing ceremony , going back to all the regions to thank and embrace all, appoint his ministers in record time while undertaking official trips . This man was supposed to be dying. Even his so –called health report was out there in public in support of these allegations and prophecies. The Vice-President, Bawumia, ministers and senior members of the parties were not spared these wicked insults Both sides (NDC NPP and some of the other parties were involved .Who will apologise to the NPP? It was funny to hear Haruna Iddrissu ending his questions to Otiko with veiled threats .You have done your worst from the reports but God will do His best.
  Akuffo-Addo was renamed OPANA, a very despicable reference for an unreliable and useless person –culled from street language of youth. This description shocked the nation.
  Why should a vetting process be used for extracting apologies from nominees? Why should their refusal to apologise for statements they believed was their constitutional right to make be a bar to their approval as ministers of state? How seriously do we take the vetting process? Why Otiko?
  Is she being harassed because people like her , Vice President Bawumia and his wife Samira drove the NPP message home to their Northern brothers and sisters? Why is her hairstyle an issue? What bearing does it have on her nomination? If civility had ruled the process, she would have emerged like those who were urged on with respect.
  THE VETTING PROCESS
  The platform is to discuss the mandate with nominees to get a sense of what they perceive their mandate to be and how they will implement it .It is to help identify challenges and emerging trends and in a more positive way to learn from the experiences of others ,if any .Most nominees are new to the job and should not show any expertise beyond the normal at the vetting. After all some were harassed and castigated for making the mistake of visiting and daring to seat in the offices of the ex-ministers, prior to their vetting and approval. How then do they answer some of the questions that they are being forced to answer? The process has been messed up and the incoming ministers have been harassed and in some cases abused for no good reason. It calls for changes and it is expected that the Speaker, who is very mature, will help address this. There must be rules , respect for the nominees and decorum should prevail. If what is going on is vetting let us save the taxpayers’ money by scrapping it. The vetting procee should not be used to settle family problems .In any case all families have their problems.
  WHAT DID OTIKO SAY WHICH IS FORGOTTEN?
  ON KAYAYEI ,MALE PORTERS AND DOMESTIC HELP
  She made a very novel, powerful and profound statement which should guide our policies and the effort to address the problem. She indicated that as we go into the future we must, as a matter of urgency, stop using the kayayei as HUMAN DONKEYS. This, according to her, is why she believes that we must know their numbers which implies the need to establish reliable data on them. This will help to identify their needs and design policies and strategies to retrain them and give them every needed support , in particular accommodation facilities .This will include health ,literacy and resettlement programs. This is crucial because to help people it is crucial to know who they are ,their numbers, their peculiar challenges and needs. She indicated that she has been made aware of some5000 in terms of numbers but she would prefer to embark upon a registration exercise to ascertain the actual numbers .She bemoaned the fact that there is no regulation in place to address their peculiar issues. The reference to human donkeys vividly puts the problem into context. In this modern world, poverty and abject neglect should not condemn our kith and kin to slavery and sub-human treatment in the country of their birth. This explains why the President throughout the campaign highlighted their issue for special address.
  She would include the male porters in this category
  She was gracious enough to acknowledge some of the pioneering efforts by her immediate predecessor and, she indicated that she would build on this effort to alleviate poverty and provide training and skills to this group to wean them from poverty. In this regard she would employ experience gained in working with children and vulnerable groups to help address the the challenges at the national and international levels
  CHILD LABOUR
  She sees child labour as a menace that should be eliminated. She recognised the power of education of both parents and children through campaigns targeted at the relevant communities and the affected persons to promote understanding of the implications, change mind-sets through awareness creation. She recognises that the underlying causes, particularly the poverty issue will have to be addressed alongside the awareness campaigns
  ABUSE OF CHILDREN
  She recognises the need to create awareness about treatment and punishment of children to stem the brutality involved in the effort to correct children by their own parents. She will, in this connection, see to the amendment of the Childrens Act and she will disseminate information through radio programmes ,flyers and other media to create awareness
  MANAGEMENT OF ORPHANAGES
  She underscored the need to ensure that the countries’ orphanages are better managed with a view to ensuring that the rights of the children in terms of the quality of care given them are improved .She will ensure that the facilities are renovated ,the practices are modernised and the capacity of staff are upgraded
  OTHER ISSUES THAT HAVE TO BE ADDRESSED
  JOB CREATION
  She stresses the need for job creation to address poverty and also job losses. In this connection she underscored the need to address the energy issue to support job creation in the informal sector. I n particular, she recognises the incidence of poverty in the various regions of Ghana and more particularly in the Northern section of the Country and its impact on the gender issue
  POLICY ADVOCACY AND AWARENESS CREATION
  She will use advocacy and awareness creation as a tool to help the effort to bring about the necessary reforms
  GENDER MAINSTREAMING
  She will employ gender mainstreaming as a strategy to ensure that the gender issue is taken account of in the design and implementation of policies and legislations
  will promote changes which She will support the recognition and inclusion of women alongside their male counterparts in decision making processes
  BRIGDING THE GAP BETWEENTHERURAL AND URBAN WOMAN
  The gender inequality at the lower levels is too yawning a gap. To this extent, efforts should be made bridge the gap through the instrumentality of the MASLOC and LEAP
  programmes. In particular women with no independence and widows will be prime targets in order to give them some level of independence ,quality of life and human dignity
  AFFIRMATIVE ACTION BILL
  She will in collaboration with other colleagues in Government and stakeholder expedite work on the affirmative Action Bill
  CONCLUSION
  She said all the relevant things . We refused to take note because we had a different Agenda---
  To put her down and demand an apology for President Mahama. We have a country to build as she kept reminding us throughout the vetting
