I think they should throw the name to Ghanaians to submit names then an independent committee formed to choose the best that will suit all.

Like we did for the country when we wanted a new flag for the about to be independent country a call was sent out to Ghanaians to design a flag for the country and out of the many, the flag designed and submitted by Madam Okoe emerged as the preferred winner.

The government can likewise send the invitation to citizens to submit a name for the edifice. That in itself will whip enthusiasm and civic education. Who knows what name can emerge?

My 80 year old mother doesn't care hoot about Jubilee or Flagstaff House. Many like her can hardly wrap their tongues around those tongue twisters names. They sound very foreign and colonial at the same time. How do you say, for example Efi Kese, or Oman Fie in Ga, Ewe, Nfanti, Wassa, Nzema, Sefwi, Bono, Dagomba, Frafra, Mamprusi, Gonja, Guan, Sissala, Dagarti? My personal preference would have been Manfie, Efi Keseimu or Apatakese. What have you? Let's throw it to the people who own the place.

Atta Mess in his inordinate nonsensical attitude to paint everything Nkrumah started this embarrassment. How can a midwife name a baby she did not give birth to, when the birth mother had already given the baby her preferred name? That Nkrumah fan-fool of a professor would have painted the whole country with Nkrumah relics if he could. Change the name to something other than Jubilee or Flagstaff House. It should sound Ghanaian, though.

So everybody is disgusted with the English language, so they suggest we use Ghanaian Languages to educate our children, but the only thing they want or mean is for all Ghanaian kids to be taught Twi. So they act rational and level headed suggesting we the people choose the name for the seat of government bearing in mind a Ghanaian flavor. Ok good idea, but in their minds only an Akan or Twi sounding nomenclature will satisfy their ego. Yet we have dozens of options in Hausa, Ewe, Ga-Adangme and many other non Akan nomenclatures. Ghana will never achieve it's true potential because of these egocentric, ethnocentric, greedy selfish Akans. They hate the fact that "Flagstaff House" is associated with Nkrumahand Ghanaian Nationalism. In their twisted minds, they think "Jubilee" is an Akan denotation. Those ignorant NDC folks will change it back to Flag Staff should they return to power. This is how small the brain of an intellectual Ghanaian is. So I suggest we call the darn Ugly place "Jubilee Flag Staff House". If I could rule Ghana for just 1 simple year,i'd change it for the better overnight. And, ultimately, the client, the owner, is often credited with the title. So, Ghanaians are all the builder of the edifice. No parochial section of the Citizenry can claim the right to name it.

We did not Elect the President to come renaming prominent structures. That is not a priority for us. Our little money left in our coffers ought to be used for most crucial needs. And renaming the Flagstaff House is not one of them.

The place was the seat of government in our first republic and guess what, Flagstaff House was the known registered address until on 24 February 1966, Kukurudu/CIA induced soldiers pitifully stormed the grounds and staged a putsch or coup d'état against our first president, Kwame Nkrumah and his CPP government, hence the reason why the NDC party deemed it necessary and befitting to restore the original name of the place back to the once Flagstaff House.

In fact, it was the same UP, now NPP that moved the seat of government to the castle in the first place and then turn around to claim the area that they once upon a time dislike passionately due to the fact that Kwame Nkrumah once occupied the premise. It's upon this reason the NPP is trying them all to erase the history of that place with the excuse of Ghana@fifty bullshit. Get it now, nitwit?

Why did ndc change the name of the place in the first instance? They just wanted to flex their political power muscles when they came to office. They can wait and name edifices when they are able to secure grants to put such up for Ghana, which will be a very long time to come. For now, Jubilee House is rightfully Jubilee House, because such was it's name when it was put up and they (ndc) shouldn't have changed it!!

It is obvious that the likes of Kufuor and Akufo-Addo are so stuck in their horrible UP/CPP vicious animosities of the 50s and 60s that they would always take the least opportunity to sanitize the reputation they accumulated for their side of the political spectrum.

It is therefore by no accident that the most the Danquah Institute, for instance, took upon itself to accomplish was to rewrite our History to embellish the name of Danquah and his UP/NLM legacy.

Some Folks may have soon forgotten how Kufuor changed the name of a Park in Sunyani in Nkrumah's memory to Busia's. That sparked a lot of controversy among the traditional leaders of Brong Ahafo, who took umbrage at the attempt by Kufuor to diminish the significance of Nkrumah in the Region's history and inflate that of Busia's, instead.

Kufuor's ostensible excuse was that Busia is the one who was the son of the Region. But to most Citizens of the Region, it was Nkrumah who did most for them as a Political leader, and they had honored him with his name on the Park.

Similarly, Kufuor re-named the Flagstaff House for the same main reason: To diminish the eminence of Nkrumah, even though the late President's name was not on the edifice but his association with the place was strong.

Does this current attempt to surreptitiously revert to the Jubilee House mean we are going to see the name of the building changed by every new President to whatever he or she likes to call it? Or, it would be tossed back and forth between Flagstaff House and Jubilee House only when UP and CPP progenies come to Power?

These subtle claims of perceived past political superiority and attempts to recapture lost ancient glories don't help in rebuilding the Nation with the diversity she has. We cannot go back to destroy each other physically or psychologically to feed our bruised egos.

So, let Akufo-Addo and his minions leave the name of Flagstaff House alone. That name sounds neutral.

Many believe Kufuor chose the 'Golden Jubilee House' to commemorate our 50th Independence Anniversary. But others believe he did so to both erode part of Nkrumah's legacy away, and to honor the UP heroes of the past who used to gather at the Jubilee Park in Kumasi for their rallies.

Some are even more cynical by suggesting Kufuor intended to name it after the Golden Stool of his Ashanti Kingdom, to claim a certain domination by the Ashantis in Ghana, even today. But since there is one and only one Golden Stool of that significance to the Ashantis, he took a slight deviation to insert the Jubilee in the name beginning with 'Golden'.

That last bit sounds more conspiratorial and far-fetched. However, the attempt to erase Nkrumah's name from most of our History by the UP fanatics still holds water. And it must stop, for the sake of engendering greater unity to rebuild Ghana.

If PNDC/NDC was so much interested in keeping the name Flagstaff House because that is the name President Nkrumah used, why did the PNDC/NDC not change the name of Kotoka Airport since Kotoka overthrew President Nkrumah?

Believe me, if Kotoka was Akan, the PNDC/NDC would have changed the name long time ago. If Ohene Djan was not Akan, his name would be on Accra Sports stadium. There is so much hatred and tribalism in PNDC/NDC politics!!!!!!
