This is complete nonsense! The 5th pillar of Islam says perform Haj only if you are able. Ability here means; 1) afford your own trip (without borrowing or debt), 2) leave your family with enough to take care of themselves while you are gone on the pilgrimage. 3) returns from Haj without struggling to survive. So knowing these principles, why is the zongo community rely on government for their Haj? The answer is simple, LAZINESS!!! And politicians took advantage of that. These started during Kufour's era. My advice to the Zongoes is that follow the principles of Haj and perform your pilgrimage. Another goes to the government, STOP hanging freebies to the zongoes because vote. I dare the government that similar rot will happen to the "zongo trust fund" after it is established!

Muslims in Ghana should not allow this religious duty calls annually to be infiltrated by political parties namely the npp and Ndc,I performed last years hajj and saw things by myself,much as I can not talk too much on what happened because it was my first time,I think a lot needs to be done because we saw other nations in Makkah.Example in Mina some female pilgrims were left sleeping outside in the open spaces near a bath house just because some Ghanaians leaving in and around the Saudi Arabian infiltrated our camp with the aid of some hajj officials who gave them feck tags for a fee and they took the places of real pilgrims who had paid and were air lifted to Saudi to perform hajj.How wicked can we be as Muslims?a religious duty such as hajj should not be play with by any Muslim themselves,we cant use hajj as an avenue sole aim to making money,apart from political sponsored pilgrims everybody else embarking on this religious journey pays in full before they re accepted to travel,government in this regards is only a facilitator at the governmental level as the rules re in Saudi Arabia so how can we incur debt to this magnitude making it look as if government of Ghana was paying for all Muslims?.Our Muslim leaders if they don't take care ll be punished by Almighty Allah,the hajj board I agree must be investigated to find out how this happened.The NDC always play politics with the hajj and because Muslims re mostly illiterates people turn to believe that this people re the only party that like Muslims but my question is when was Ndc formed?the tents they assamble at the hajj village was not even procured by them for the use of Muslims,it was left for government after a world conference held in Ghana sometime back under npp government and the only mistake they made was not making it available for Muslims to use as they never thought about it so the Ndc took office and realized we could use it that's all and decided to make a political capital out of our ignorance,now that we know the debt they left over that's has the tendency of affecting the next hajj 2017 who takes the blame here?.The chief Imam is old and can be excused for the lapses and political and governmental manipulation going on but the educated elite among Muslims must ask questions,we can't be this lazy.

Government does not pay anyone's hajj fees to any Muslim. The pilgrims pay the fees themselves. What happens is that, money is paid to government and the air plane is secured by government. Meaning pilgrims pay government who later pay the air line company. So if we pay government and our plane is secured and we go to MECCA and come back, after a year we are told there is a debt of GH 23m. It becomes fishy, our question is, WHAT HAPPENED TO THE MONEY WE PAID TO GOVERNMENT TO SETTLE THE AIRLINE COMPANY? This issue needs to be investigated. To all critics, u should know ur facts right.
