This Hajj issue should be investigated thoroughly and those found culpable dealt with according to law. However, I think government must not be neck deep into such matters of choice. If it was pay as you go arrangement just like any ordinary traveler, how could they have incurred this huge debt? Tax payers monies should under no circumstance be used to pay for this. If Christians decide each year to visit the Holy land, Fetish to Benin, Buddhists to China, Fake Pastors to India etc, what will become of our country? I think they should find money to pay for this debt which in my view was for cheap political points by the past administration. Let's be bold and call a spade a spade.

Why should Govt be meddling in the organization of Haj travel which should be a private religious affair apart from trying to reap political dividends from the Muslim Community? It's OK trying to help our citizens if they fall foul of Saidi laws or get stranded, which should apply for any Ghanaian anywhere in the world, but a republican/circular Govt, which is not a theocratic one, should always stay away from affairs of the Muslim or Christian Councils. A word to the wise should be enough to avoid such unfortunate state of affairs in the future!

I personally know NDC foot soldiers who went to last year's hajj without paying a dime, whereby people who made genuine payment failed to make the trip for two consecutive years running.
