Be advised that no Akan wants civil war in Ghana but by the same token Akans are not Hutus who can be defeated in war by the Ghanaian equivalent of Tutsis, whoever they may be. Some groups in Ghana consider themselves as having a monopoly on bravery and violence, apparently for their penchant for the violent and unconstitutional change of governments. However, if, may God forbid, civil war breaks out in Ghana, they will learn quickly that war brings out the worst in people and the predominantly peaceful majority shall meet courage with courage and violence with violence and shall unequivocally prevail. While you cite the example of the minority prevailing in Rwanda, think also of the Biafran example.

In this situation abusing each other is not the right solution, but it should be a question of if it happened to your child. That is the first thing to look at, then comment in a way that your child will not be the next victim since this can happen to anybody's child as is unfortunately happening in many schools.
By the way if Nigerians or anybody of Nigeria decent cried with anger he should be understood simply because it is a pity for a teacher to beat a child of 9 years that way. I am a Ghanaian who owns a school and l am aware of the imppatience of certain teachers who go beyond the rules because of emotions, stress, and nervousness that perhaps might have occured in the house and thus brought it to the school and acting under that condition that she finds herself in.
This is the time that many of us have to bring our views and opinions that can help the system that we all find ourselves together with our children in. This can happen in Nigeria if not now then it could be in the future, so which could be the best way to get the right solution to this.
Presently canning children in school is not much welcome. A teacher beat a child in my school and the parents who were Ghanaians nearly to kill the teacher as they came to fight the teacher brutally.
I have advised my teachers not to beat any child in a way that could generate fight but instead could invite the parents so that we of the school and the parents can talk of the best way to help the child in question to understand the educational goals that she/he would achieve in the future. It should be a thing of dicussing the children's future...
