It is very simple,if a factory is failing after they have all the machinery and equipments needed then we must look into personel as being the problem.If the management has failed to resolve this problem then they must be replaced with someone who can better manage the business.The president or his ministers are not going to be able to micro manage every single factory or inject money into factories just because of bad managers.

That is the only sustainable not by invited government to invest with taxpayers money so that you can fold your arms and collect dues like mosquito parasites

I don't believe that NPP govt will build 216 new district factories.It was just a campaign strategy to win the élections.To begin with,we don't even have sufficient electricity to do that and the state will not invest for private entrepreneurs just like that.Besides,govt can't force private entrpreneurs to invest where it's not viable.In conclusion,NPP will do everything to implement the free shs to appease the public,that's how it works.Don't worry be happy.

What is wrong with working to improve factories and businesses that already exist, for instance?

What are the limiting factors?

Do they have plans that make sense?

Are existing "factories" complementary, or merely duplicative?

Yes, that is what Ghana would likely get if they were to go ahead with that proposal --- duplication, waste, and loses.

If our industrial areas were set up for the purposes of creating Jobs for the people, honest jobs to giving them a decent living conditions to enable them look after their families, why will the law creating industrial zones be so broken and flaunted by selling these industries to churches that don't create any jobs but extort from the very same people who have lost their jobs. Can someone tell me honestly if we are human. Sack first and foremost all churches that have for one reason or the other bought over these industries within the industrial zones\ that were created to provide decent jobs for people before proceeding to the districts otherwise someday these district industries will become churches again. We cannot be this vulnerable.

The one district, one factory policy is a poor rehash of Nkrumah's post-independence industrialisation programme.

If all the factories established under Nkrumah were to be revived, it would go a very long way towards building our economy. Rehabilitate existing factories, before establishing new ones.

The lessons of our past must be learned. Nkrumah's factories were abandoned by latter regimes because they were being mismanaged and became a drain on the public purse.

What is the guarantee that any new factories built will be economically viable and sustainable? Will there be ready markets for the produce of these factories?

Nana Addo should take heed of the ICU's advice.

Any thing NPP want to do or do not want to do they use Osafo Marfo to test the public opinion. In the same way, they use Kennedy Agyapong to blackmail NDC on the radio stations.

Stop this "communist mentality" and let Ghana focus on building a new and enterprising entrepreneurs, we won't get anywhere as a nation. Since Nkrumah's regime, the so-called "work and happiness" which focused most on state-owned enterprises like GIHOC, BLACK STAR LINE etc., never functioned well; they were all not profitable! The World Bank/IMF instructed Ghana to into a binding divestiture program when Ghana under Rawlings' AFRC/P-NDC gov't sought economic assistance or support.

None of the advanced countries aroud the world ie: Autralia, Austria, The UK, USA, Germany, Italy, Japan just to name a few, have attempted to progress through communism, except Russia (former Soviet Union), China, Cuba and North Korea. One should compare the standard of living between North and South Korea. Malaysia, Singapore and Taiwan have all developed through the Capitalist ideologies!

So Ghanaians, esp., those who're still clamoring for the proponents of industrialization should understand that the idea of state-owned enterprises doesn't inure to the benefit of national progress and prosperity! Allow the gov't to help SMEs to establish and become the engine of growth for Ghana; ex-Prez Kuffour and his NPP gov't showed the way. Things started showing positive for Ghana; the nation had become the focus of attention for international businesses, as our GDP growth soared to 9.1% in less than 6 years in office.

Having business or everything being owned by the state is an archaic notion! I heard minority leader Hon Haruna Iddrisu asking Minister for Trade and Industry about gov't over-crowding business during the vetting process and started scratching my head. It's none gov't business to have direct participation in business. It's good for gov't to help struggling factories or business but gov't should rather concentrate on creating the enabling environment for business--both local and foreign--to flourish. That's the way forward!
