Allowing the Flagstaff house which tags the colonial mentality on us as a nation should not be allowed to stay. NDC with no sense of reasoning changed it which was the wrong thing to do. This is a party that rediculed this house as fit for a poultry farm and i believe they do not have stake in it and should have continued to govern from the slave dungeon of the catle. I believe the name should be reversed to what it was before "Jubilee house".

But the newly built building can assume the name JUBILEE house.
Remember we have Gogotha where Jesus was crucified, which is still in the GETHSEMANE gardens.

It should never have been re-named Jubilee House. If a new structure was built somewhere else, that could have had its own name. Afuffo-Addo must pick his battles carefully. This is a high cost, low return "investment".

Flagstaff Hse is an affront to the dignity of the Ghanaian. Jubilee Hse is restrictive in what the seat of gov't should be.
It needs a new name acceptable to all with input from all.

So far,I think Mr Kwaku Baako makes more sense even though I looking at that edifice would probably settle for the Golden Stool but for the fact that it is tied to the Ashanti kingdom and may not have a national appeal. Kwaku Baako therefore makes sense to me on this one while we wait for the debate on a National language and maybe National dance, National food and National dress. The Flagstaff House has been there since Nkrumah. Who was more anti-colonial than Nkrumah and yet he never found it necessary to change the name. After all "flagstaff" is an English word, just as "jubilee" is. We should not play political football with the name of the seat of government. Why, after all, should we choose Jubilee, which has to do with celebrating? What are we celebrating about? Our hunger, our corruption, our self-inflicted poverty? Is it a way of plastering over the stark reality? Or is it going to be a celebration on the part of the occupant of the house, a charming living on his/her part while the rest of us suffer, an Animal Farm kind of situation? Our joy should not come from the name of that house depicting celebration. It should come from the occupants working for the well-being of the people. Please don't remind us of joy when we are a million miles from it. We cannot be indoctrinated! We cannot be in Animal Farm any more. Jubilant? Are we now learning to savor our Independence, sixty years after the fact? Then, call that house Jubilation House, for that is what the proponents of the change want to say. Surely they want to be that fanciful, like children, like ones who wake up from a dream in which they were fancy dressers! Let Flagstaff House alone and mind serious business. Because a different government will come and find the changed name distasteful and partisanly. The military governments we had over the years never found a cause to change it because they never found anything partisan with it. Nothing colonial. That's the true picture. Let no politician pretend that it sounds colonialistic. That will be a big lie. It's simply an adorable English word. And it carries a lot of weight. It is clean. Unless the people in that house want to tell us that jubilation is what describes their daily lives there and that they want to portray it to the rest of the world against the reality outside that house. A president in his own wisdom has put up an edifice to commemorate a special historical event of our nationhood.Why should the next government change the name of the building? What was reason to effect the change?Even though the PNDC,NDC has been in power for more than a decade,but did not find it necessary to construct a building which befits the seat of government .

The current presidential palace, which didn't replace the original Flagstaff House, was built and named Jubilee House by the Kufuor administration, to commemorate Ghana's 50 years of independence. Why did Kweku Baako not see anything wrong when the name was changed by the NDC but now sees everything wrong if the NPP wants to revert to its original name? After all, when the edifice was under construction a prominent NDC person said that they were going to use it as a poultry farm when they came to power. So, sometimes, I ask, why would the NDC slight Osagyefo by using his cherished Flagstaff House to name a building that was fit for a poultry farm?
