Folarin koobi must simply be banned and made illegal to sell. Marketplace indulging in the sale of.Folarin koobi must given a substitute preserving ingredient by the food and drug board. Task food and drug board taskforce/police.to investigate and confiscate all poisonous koobi and destroy it. If this continues, arrest the traders and jail them. This action is immoral and will cause undue health problems for the healthcare industry in the country. It will also cause more sickness to Ghanaians and will affect gdp

Better than what Prof Frimpong-Boateng said. Telling people to "Stop" is not going to help matters. We need action oriented people in Ghana to lead.

the last time I bought formalin, when my nephew died in Russia and was brought home, I could easily purchase the chemical even though everything was then in short supply in Ghana. so what Government or whoever is in charge can do is to restrict the availability of the chemical. It could then be sold only in those designated drug stores where people with dead bodies can go and buy.

I think one of the leading cause of premature deaths in Ghana is food poisoning. The ministry of health and the NCCE should as a matter of urgency set up a commission to sturdy and analyze a new way of improving the civic education to curb the menace. In the era of social media, there should be more emphasis on the use of social media to help educate the public and the food vendors the risks involved by adding chemical substances and additives to foodstuffs in their quest to maximize their profits. The FDB should also increase their Human Resources on the field inspections to go round and inspect every food stuff and meat products that has the potential of attracting additives for storage or to increase its quantity. The FDB has placed too much emphasis on the pharmaceutical sector and neglected the area of the locally produced food completely.

This is what happens when people want to stick to barbaric cultures and traditions at all cost. How did Koobi come about. Our elders of old wanted to preserve these commodities for a long time, that is why they resorted to the use of salt to preserve fish. I get irritated when I meet Ghanaians, especially the useless academicians, who fall head over heels to taste soups which have the repulsive odour of Koobi. Some also want to have the salty taste of this rotten fish at the peril of their kidneys. I am using the word rotten because Koobi is not the choicest of fish the fisherman brings to the market. In fact most fishermen who bring koobi to market don't even eat it in their homes. Koobi is gotten from tilapias that have died and are almost getting rotten in water. Some of them die due to the inability of the fishermen to go an inspect their traps in time. Some also die due to natural enemies like electric fish. These are the rotten fish fishermen salt and bring to the market as koobi. Why should Ghanaians risk their health because of this rotten fish.

Thevpurpose is to conserve the fish. It is therefore npt out of order to eat something that has been preserved legally. It becomes a problem only when people resort to criminal methods to maximise their profit. I do not therefore agree that ot is babaric to eat something that is traditionally avvepted and has not goven us any cause for alarm until criminal elemen5s started abusing the system. BTW me Agbesi, your argument that Akans are short because they eat fufu cannot hold water. It is worth mentioning that carbohydrate digestion STARTS in the mouth but does not necessarily end there.

We are talking about Koobi here but since you have brought the fufu issue I will dwell on it a bit.
FUFU
Look about 90% of the digestion of starch/carbohydrates takes place in the mouth. That is where specialised body parts like the teeth, tongue, and the salivary glands are employed to do the job. This is the only place where the surface area of the fufu can be enlarged for effective biochemical reaction. Mind you, the surface area of the food can be enlarged when it is broken down into bits and pieces. What ever happens elsewhere in the alimentary canal is not as effective as what takes place in the mouth. For instance, if you chew the food, absorbtion of the sugar produced starts from the oesophagus, then in the stomach and the process continues and by the time the food gets elsewhere majority of the sugar is absorbed. If one swallows and sugar is formed elsewhere apart from the mouth, the absortion of sugar may not be effective and this explains why most faeces get fermented in the intestine.
KOOBI SCIENCE
Do you know why the so called proper koobi attracts flies. It is because because the fish is rotten. Remember the human body is not designed to feast on rotten food. If you know the biochemistry involved in rottening and its harmful effect on the body you wouldn't touch koobi, even, with a long stick. Do you know why it is advised that cooked food should not be kept in the refrigerator for more than four days yet this is a common mistake committed by most Ghanaians, especially university students and educated elites. I guess your eyes are now opening to see certain things now. A word to the wise is on GhanaWeb. Thanks.
