For the money to spent on those sitting in air conditioning offices and driving V8 cars. Nonsense! What sort of stupidity is this? What benefits do they get from the taxes collected from them? I remember a scene I saw at neoplan station as a school boy about a kayayei and it has stuck with me till this day. It was this kayayei with a child at her back carrying a heavy load which took two men to off load it from her head and she started crying unconsolably when they took the load off her head. And to worsen her plight the guy also refused to pay her what she charged saying that is all he's got. I felt so sad. Is there any moral justification for taxing the most vulnerable of society who earn peanut just to survive.

One can adjust their tax rate but to remove it altogether is a cheap political gimmick. This tax is to help local assemblies generate income for development projects.
Spreading the tax net is important to reduce the overall tax burden on workers. Nana Addo and his NPP admin are more interested in cheap populism than in responsible government.
This removal of Kayayei tax is unsustainable. It will be restored sooner rather than later.
